Has any one had experience comparing the Buku pipe to the CVEC pipe?
I think they work on the same principle?

Actually they don't.......

with the CVEC, the shape of the inside of the pipe DOES NOT CHANGE. What made the CVEC unique is that it has a plunger at the end of the pipe that would maintain some back pressure at idle and thru-out the power band while having those two larger stingers.

I had a CVEC back in the day....... I was never really impressed with mine and I'm not surprised they went out of business.

Thanks for the input. I am using one on a Sirio 18 and
I don't think it is any better than a stock pipe with the stinger enlarged. I was looking for more mid range torque.
I have seen the videos on
buku's site but don't really have any first hand experience with them.

I've been more than impressed with my Buku. Had it on my OS 18tm for almost half a gallon and couldn't believe the difference (I was running the single chamber resonator before). I am just finishing breakin of a new 3.3 and can't wait to try the Buku on it.

ajb1205, What do you notice as different with the Buku?
Does it still seem to have the same top end?

Before I changed to the Buku I had issues with tuning with the Resonator. It was either too rich or borderline too lean (especially after half a tank or so)...seemed like I was always messing with the hsn. With the Buku installed and tuned (I am also running the RB buggy filter and the Mugen 160cc tank) my temps were a consistant 230 or so from full to almost empty. Before I was running temps of 250 to 260 but with the Buku I could run quite a but richer and have more power across the entire rpm range. Without a doubt my 18tm was faster with the Buku compared to the Resonator (though, I do realize the Resonator is a low/mid end pipe). After almost half a gallon I didn't touch my needles once! If you are considering a Buku, just make sure you feel comfortable tuning your engine casue if you can't tune you'll be in for a huge headache. I want to run another 6 or 8 tanks through my new 3.3 before I throw the Buku on...I can't wait. If you have any other questions fire away. Dave, the owner of Buku, is also awesome...he'll help you out if you need anything as well.

Being able to tune the truck is not a problem. Thanks for the info on the Buku pipe, I am definately looking to purchase one.
I know what you mean running 250-260 temps, wow, you keep the temp down to 230? Impressive.
With all my stock, modified, and home made pipes as well, I can either get gobs of low end torque or make the engine a top end screamer. I have two trucks and there is a world of difference between a Traxxas 2.5 and the Sirio .18 I guess I have a choice to make, big block or pipe.
Maybe a big block AND a pipe

Another thing to keep in mind...there is 2 Buku pipes...one for a .20 and smaller engine and another for the BB. After spending $109 on a pipe I want to be able to use it. That is why I threw in my old, brand new rebuild from Traxxas, 3.3. I could probably still use it for an OS 21tm but anything larger and you would need the BB Buku. If I didn't already have the Buku, I probably would have sold the 3.3 and grabbed a larger engine...RB523 or something of the sorts.
