My engine stalls whenever I take out the ignitor or rev it while it's still in. I'm pretty sure this is bacause it's either too rich or the glow plug is worn out. But I've only been through 3 tanks, so I don't think it's the glow plug, but I'm still new so I don't really know. Is there any way to tell what's causing it for sure?

I have an extra glow plug, but i don't really want to open it if I don't have to

Pretty sure it's the glow plug? Is the engine new? Are you breaking it in? It's not uncommon to smoke a glow plug while you're breaking in a new engine.

Take plug out, add ignitor and see if it glows. Remember to lean does the same thing too!

When i was breaking in my new engine i had the same prob;lems. It was becuase i was being to inpacient,i had to let it idle for a minute and then ease the throttle. If you idle is not that high turn it up sinc ei find it is better to have a slightly high ide.But first i would change the glow plug or turn the idle up with the throttle trim just enough so it does not stall and let the engine warm up.

Sounds to me like its running rich, is this a new car? If its not a knew car trying leaning out the HSN a bit and 1/8th on the LSN. The car should be able to be stopped for 10 seconds, then be able to pull away without bogging down.

When you start it, leave the glow plug on and look at the exhaust. If its spitting alot of fuel out thats a clear sign its a bit on the rich side. If your breaking in the engine then it needs to be rich, sometimes you have to leave the glow heater on during first 1 or 2 tanks of break in

for the record, a weak glow plug will still "glow" but not be enough to keep the engine running

for the op

there are usually only two things that will cause those symptoms
bad/weak glow plug
and
a too rich condition

i guarentee it is the glow plug.. like 1amnot said even if the glow plug does glow it could still be too weak to start your truck or keep it running. i had the same problem with one of my trucks. after my 5th tank of break in i parked the truck.. about 5 hours later i tried to start my truck and had the same problem you are having.

i checked my glow plug with my ignitor and it did glow. so i tired a new glow plug and the truck started right up and ran like a champ. jake
