I paypal-ed this guy $900 on July 7th for this ad:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=411930

He has dropped out of communication after failing to produce a tracking number several times, and now his RCU account is listed as "suspended." This status of his acount was not achieved through any of my actions and I believe his other transaction besides mine to be bogus.

Any ideas?

You should be safe since you used paypal. As far as I know you can easily file a dispute and you'll get the money back, should the seller fail to justify himself.

Paypal will only pay you what they can recover from his account. I got shafter $1800 over a turbine once by a guy called Neil Keys in the UK. Submitted the paypal claim and
it was settled in my favor. They only recovered $36 from his account..

I anyone else comes accross Neil Key, Jet Turbine World or Turbine Technics look out, I have since found out that this guy has taken quite a few people for a lot of money.

Neil Key has been active in the turbine helicopter world for several years. Originally we worked with him, he was selling Wren engines with heli gearboxes bought from Dick Wallinger (of Midland Helicopters). However, we started to get complaints about him from his customers - they were phoning us because Neil had said his shipping delays were due to problems with Wren engines, when in fact the delay was because he hadn't actually bought any engines. So we stopped dealing with him.

There are a number of threads about him and his activities on both Runryder and Helifreak. I hope the mods will allow me to post the links to the main ones here, as it is important to warn people about him. He has taken as much as 3000GBP ( about 6000 dollars) at a time, without delivering the goods.

Neil has now set up a business called "Jet turbine World" and is attempting to do for jet fliers what he did for turbine helicopter fliers. Rob Orrock has already had an unfortunate experience, I hope no-one else will have the same.

I always use a credit card thru paypal so if something happens I can go back to my card company and file a dispute with them. Had this happen with a deal on ebay, filed it with my card company, paypal and ebay. Got my money back but it took some leg work. I hate to see these kind of things happen. If you can find out his real name and state you could pursue it that way. I remember once on here some one posted he had been scammed and posted the guys name. A fellow RCU member made a post to the thread and said he could help. He soon PM'ed the guys Drivers license #, home address, phone #, Even the guys work # and his bosses name. Needless to say I believe he got his money back. Don't give up!!

Undecided.

Smitty,

I use PayPal but I always "fund" it with a credit card since they will issue a refund for a "undelivered" product. Before I learned this I had two unfortunate dealings where I sent the money and didn't receive the goods. I looked up the number for the local police department, called them and filed an official report. Both times they dispatched an officer to look into the matter. On the first occasion it was it was rectified immediately. On the second occasion the police were called a second time and they had to "threaten" the guy with jail if they had to come out again.

The most important thing here is do something now, don't wait. If you choose to give the guy any time I would make it 24 hours, at the most!

Good luck and sorry that you had this experience.

David

David,

Unfortunately I am going through a similar experience. I bought and paid for a turbine from a British guy who lives in Cyprus
but never got anything in return. I will be taking up the matter with my lawyer and the police.
Unfortunately the guy lurks around this forum so beware.

Reuben

Hi Reuben,

I read about your predicament, I wish you nothing but luck. Thank you for warning us all about this guy. I'm just about finished with an F-15 and am building a F-14 and I will be sure to steer clear of this guy. I personally dislike lawyers but I think they deserve to get guys like this.

David

For around $3600 (€2200 to be exact) one would not like to leave these behind so that this guy can go and party. When the time comes I will not hesitate to name and shame him on this forum so that people can be warned about it.
For now I will do my thing but if it does go sour I will not hesitate.

John,

You need to go to the ad in the marketplace and file a complaint against tigermike.

Also, I am closing this thread as it has turned into other people talking about who they got scammed by.
