Hi guys,

I am going to be doing a review on the AirFoilz Yak 54 Full Fuse and I thought since one hadn't been done yet I would do a build thread as well. I recently finished the Extra and if you prefer Extras I wouldn't hesitate to grab the RCU edition of the AirFoilz Extra full fuse because it flew great. The Yak should fly just as good and from what I hear slightly different due to the slightly different design.

I will post pics as the build progresses. I just opened the package to have a look inside and took some initial pics which I will post soon. Bit of a busy week for me and will be gone this weekend but I am going to try and get some good process on this plane so I can get her in the air next week some time.

Will post some pics soon!

Sounds good. It'll be interesting to see how this stacks up to the new wave of EPP foamies.

i have one of the full fuse extra 260's and i love it!!! i have been playing with diffrent motor combos the past few weeeks and think i have found a very good set-up. but i use hitec 55 servos with 6200 spectrim receiver. i would like to know if it's ok with you to post the diffrrent motor set-ups i have tried and what i think of them, cause the yak and the extra an same in power requirements. i'm thinking of getting the new yak with the rc groups scheme. i have the regular scheme on my 260 not the rcu or the wattflyer scheme. the one thing i loved the most about this plane was the building!!! it's almost like building a 40 size plane with all the detail to strength but still keeping it light!!!

I don't have a problem with posting motor combos at all

I highly suggest you get HS-65s though.. it performs way better!

I have been using an AXI 2808/24 with an APC 11x5.5 E Prop cut down to 10.5 inches dia, a Turnigy 35 ESC and Zippy 3S 2200 pack on the original RC Group prototype. Great performance with that combo. I also use HS-65's with this setup as the 55's don't cut it with the power available.

I just finished the Airfoilz full fuselage Yak54 the other day and maidened it yesterday. It's a great flying plane. It was even a little on the breezy side and it did just fine. The only complaint I have is that landing it on my grass field which could stand to be cut shorter, is a little tough. Not the planes fault though, it's just so light (which is a good thing) that it wants to flip onto its nose when you touch down. I might try bending the gear a bit forward to see if that helps. Otherwise, on the takeoff roll you have to get it rolling, then it will take off in about three feet, total of maybe a four foot takeoff roll. It's awesome, I have it balanced at around 3 3/4" from the leading edge of the wing at the fuselage and it works great. Hands off inverted, which is how I like it.
I would suggest one thing on the build. Make sure that when you build the wooden frame and snap it all together, that you make absolute sure you have it square and straight before you apply any CA glue. I was off just a hare and it created all kinds of problems getting things lined up. I had to work at it to get things straightened out at first. I have a Scorpion 2215-18 motor with the combo speed controller. Hitec Micro 05MS receiver and all Hitec 65 servos. An APC 10x5E prop and a TP "pro-lite" 2100mah battery. Lots of power.
This plane makes me look better than I really am. I think becaus it's so light, you can flip it around on a dime and do some wild stuff with it and recover in a heart beat, without the fear of it screaming down to the ground like most planes like to do. -Thanks for a great plane Paul.
