I am in the market for a new radio and i noticed that the dx61 i is very cheap compared to alot of the other 2.4ghz radios.

is it bad electronics?
not reliable?
no good features?

I am very close to buying one for my mini-titan because my old computer doesn't have very good heli functions on it.

The TX has four batteries and are not hard wired into the tx (batteries snap in) leaving several more connections to have go South down the road! No way would I buy this radio for that reason alone. Also, it comes with a TX only charger for the 4.8 volt batteries leaving you using another second charger for your RX. I have nothing against Spectrum as I have a DX7, but I think this radio leaves a whole lot to be desired. I wouldn't touch this TX with a 10 foot pole....................

The DX6i is a pretty good package overall. It's a lot of radio for the money.

The Airtronics RDS8000 is also a very solid value at $229.99, and Hobby People is including a second 8-channel full range receiver for no extra charge right now:

http://utopia.rcuniverse.com/adclick.php?bannerid=4562&zoneid=43&source=&dest=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hobbypeople.net

I've heard from a couple of DX6i owners that the roller assembly for programming the radio is a bit flimsy. I personally know two different owners who have had their programming rollers break loose from the transmitter.

I already own the RDS8000, I picked one up a couple of months ago for $194.99 delivered from Tower Hobby. When I heard about the bonus receiver sale at Hobby People, I ordered a second one along with a buddy cable, so now I own two transmitters and three receivers.

If you're primarily interested in micro helicopter use, the DX6i should handle what you need just fine. It's no accident that Horizon is bundling the radio system with the Blade 400 RTF package. If you want advanced programming capabilities and mixing features for a wider variety of aircraft, it's really tough to beat the RDS8000. Getting a second receiver is just icing on the cake.

I won a Spektrum DX6i at our club's general meeting in May as a raffle prize. I sold it and kept my RDS8000. Both are nice radio systems, but I believe the Airtronics package is a better fit for my overall needs.

It's inexpensive because it's an entry level radio....

While it may suit your purpose, you need to decide where you may want to go after your current model before making a radio purchase.

The DX6i which comes with the Blade 400 has alkaline batteries, the retail tx, rx package comes with rechargeable batteries and a charger which is a lower voltage than most tx chargers.

If you screw around with the battery setup which you can do if you like, you'll void the warranty.

I have no experience with the AirTronics radios so I can't comment on them other than to say they are a recent entry into the 2.4GHz radios.

I do have a DX6i, a DX-7 and a 12X. I had an X9303 as well which I sold when the 12X came so I think I can comment on those radios. I'll say that if you anticipate going further in modeling, the DX7 is a much more capable radio with a much better "feel" to it than the DX6i.

i just bought a dx6i. if they improved that roller it would be awesome tx for 180 bucks. but as is im happy with my purchased. all the programming features are their. it doesnt feel or look cheap. now if i can only program the damn thing without losing my mind.

i also have the dx6 which is also good but only offers 3 point pitch and throttle curves. i would of got the dx7 but that's 350 bucks vs 180 bucks for the dx6i

The DX6I doesn't come with servos either. The other Spektrum radios have 4 servos with their package. You have to take that into account. I have the DX6I and the DX6. Side by side, the DX6 is way more robust and put together a lot better. A buddy of mine has the DX6I and the trim knobs fell off. Also, both of our battery covers are held together with tape. It falls off with the slightest touch. Overall, the value of the DX6I is great, but I wish Spektrum had put more effort into building a more robust radio box around the technology. It just has a flimsy feel to it compared to my DX6. The technology is better, but the box that holds it isn't. It's like putting a Hyundai frame around a Ferrari engine. Why would you want to do that?

I find the DX6i to be a good radio. I trust the transmitter with a 33% Pitts and a 1.3K 2M pattern aircraft. I have not found the roller assembly to be flimsy, although I make a point to be very gentle with my aircraft and gear. I store it in a transmitter case and when it's not in the case it is protected by a transmitter tray. The batteries fit in tightly and my battery cover is fairly tight - not the tightest cover ever made, but enough to where it won't come off unless you pull on it. I find that the 6i fits my hands better than the DX7. I suppose I may have a minority opinion here, but that's my take.

The DX6i is a good radio. Why is it so cheap?. Because not all of us are able to put our hands in our back pockets and extract wads and wads of cash
The radio is glitch free well presented AND WORKS. What more can anyone want. We are talking about a hobby, and in my book you spend what you can afford. If it has a down side it is the instuction book which leaves an awful lot to be desired.
Dont be put off by price it is good
