What is the best way to de-gum an old carb? I have an OS46 that has not been run for several years and the carb is locked up with what I call gum, kind of a yellow sticky stuff.

The "gum" is just old dried up castor oil and fuel. You can soak the carb in a little bit of fuel and it will loosen up that "gum" and remove it.

"Dawn Power Dissolver" REALLY works well for buildup.

You basically wash the engine/carb in it, let it sit for a while with the liquid on, then wash it off with water.

Finally you remove the water by apply something that will displace the water.

I use air to blow out the water, then WD40 followed by glow fuel and/or afterun oil.

The excess castor disappears completely and your engine/carb looks brand new too!

I had a gummed up OS 25 that the carb wouldn't move at all. I sprayed it with WD-40 and let it set a minute and it loosened up as I actuated it and put more wd-40 on it.

I did the old antifreeze technique to clean up my old engine. Looks like I just bought it. I will probably try the Dawn Power Dissolver next time on another engine I gotta do... seems easier! lol
