The Best is a pretty subjective thing. What are your thoughts on what makes it "Best" ?
as for me - (you said Kit's) - I love the Lanier Stinger for general sports flying.

ARF's - well that's another big ball game.

well, since you didn't define what kind of flying you like... I am assuming that you are not an "advanced" pilot in terms of skills and experience, and not so much oriented to the current 3D craze. With that in mind, I think you will find the general flying characteristics of a mid-wing or shoulder-wing, symetrical (with thick wing section), and large tail surfaces to be a reasonably aerobatic but well-behaved sport flyer. THere are many to pick from, bith kits and ARFs. As noted above, the Lanier Stinger (120 or Giant) certainly fit the criteria and are reasonably priced and readily available. Most of the "stick" planes also fit (the Bridi Stick and Old Timer are both still available, good flyers and rugged when built properly). If you want something a bit more realistic in appearance, consider the Dynaflite Giant Decathlon.

Cant beat a Giant Stinger with a G-62, or similar engine, for an all around "Sunday" flyer. Easy to build and low maintainence, tough as nails. Good slow speed, and windy weather plane. Not a great 3-D model, but it can handle most all regular aerobatics.
The one I have, I built in 2000. It has been passed around to some other club members, and now back to me. It has had several engines in it including a Sachs 4.2, Brison 3.2, Saito 2.70, D&B 3.7 twin, and now a G-62. Handled well with every one of them.
Still one of my favorites.
A friend has the ARF version, with a G-62, and it just as good as the kit built.

Well, I didn't realize they had been discontinued. I guess you will have to search the online ads and E-bay. There were tons of them kitted, so you should be able to find one.

A little bit smaller, but a great sport flyer is the 4*120 from Sig. They fly very well with a 25-30cc gasser. Easy to build. A lot of work, but not complicated to build.
