Steve..... Put both batteries in the front...bottom side with trap door. Do the CG WITHOUT the fuel in the UAT

On the vent line..... Take it straight out the side, NOT on the bottom

What's the downside (pardon the pun) of running the vent out the bottom?

You can run it out the bottom, But it easier to run out the side at a event to hook up the external tank. PLUS if you run off grass you won't suck something up.

Glad to see her still in the air, Tom. She'll still teach you a thing or two if you pay attention.  Now I need to go fly mine...

Very nice photo!

I maiden my shock today.... five perfect uneventful flights. What a blast! It's a very stable aircraft, very relaxing to fly! The bug has bitten; already thinking about my "next jet"

Cheers,
Steve

Hey folks.

Maidened mine as well today. Had up to 4 shockjets in the air at the same time today!

I had a flameout with mine not too long ago, right after takeoff. I had gone full throttle with my Falcon, was pulling to vertical when it quit. Only about 100 ft up. Nose down, build up speed, flared and pulled full flaps a few seconds before landing off field. Only thing that broke was the bulkhead the nosegear was mounted to. (A real weak point in the design, IMHO). Quick fix, though. I beefed it up a bit when glueing it back in.

If it had been a grassy area I'm sure there would have been no damage. It landed in a harvested field with furrows. With all the wing area and large flaps, it is amazing how slow it will fly, and is one reason why there was so little damage.

The problem was the fuel pump. I have a replacement coming from Eric, and am looking forward to getting it back in the air soon.

Sorry to hear about the flameout, I'm glad the damage was minimal. The SJ is pretty stout but I agree the front bulkhead is a weak point. -Tom

Appears to be a bad link in previous post. This was made last Sunday , shows andy's maiden flight and 4 shok jets airbore at same time . A rookie and a F-16 slipped in there somehow.

Just got my shock jet this week from TBM.  I have a couple of questions.  I see it comes with the flat "dubro" style hinges, but I do not see anywhere in the ailerons, flaps, elevator or rudder where they cut slots for hinges.  Is this common or am I missing something?  Also, I was looking through the bags of hardware and only notice there is 1 carbon pushrod.  There is a seperate bag with almost the exact same hardware, just minus the carbon rod.  I assume the 2 carbon rods are suppose to be for the rudder and elevator.  Overall, pretty happy with the covering and how everything is packed.  Just trial fitted the parts and they all go together great.  I am putting a JetCat P-70 in it so it should be fun.  Any help with the hinges or what you guys have seen or did I would greaty appreciate it.  Thanks.

Also, if anyone else installed a JetCat P-70, could you email me or PM me with any suggestions or things you had to change.  I am making the jump from giant scale 3D to jets so there is still a lot I have to learn when it comes to jets.  Thanks in advance.

Was there just a few week ago... welcome to the jet world!

Many told me to use the ca hinges provided, others said something else. I couldn't bring myself to ca hinges, sorry but I cam from giant scale as well. I used Robarts, little more work but they work great and I'm not worried about them failing. BTW: The hinge slots are not cut, at least mine were not.

Careful to hinge the flaps at the very bottom of the surfaces otherwise you will not get the throw you want (70 degrees).

As far as the p70 I have no idea, I used a JC Rabbit V100 and had no problems with the install.

I would be happy to email a few photos if it helps you in some way.

Welcome aboard!

Steve

That would be great Steve.  My email is: jasonandjamie1229@msn.com
Is there an actual build thread that someone did on a shock jet?
