Status: offline 		I just got my Shok in the mail last week, now I am just waiting for my new P70 to arrive and the 100 ounce tank before I can finish it up and start my Waiver training.
Anyone with the P70 had to shim the motor? Also, do you have any pics of your install? Does the fod screen fit without surgury?

Status: offline 		I don't think ANY fod-screen will fit without surgery unless you mount the turbine so far aft as to cause CG issues. The TBM 101 oz. tank requires minor surgery also, but it's strictly an out-patient procedure : )

I do not have a P70 but I am running a JC Rabbit. I relocated the blind nuts about an inch aft, I use the fod screen, did no surgery to the former. I have all three of my batteries as far forward as possible, I have no cg problems. I'm now at 34 flights and each one has been perfect.

Status: offline 		Maiden flight with my Shock-Jet. (Not much of a thrill.) I was at half throttle during take off. I was a bit nervous because I didn't know how it would handle because I had to add quite a bit of weight in the nose. (16 oz to be exact!!!) I am using a JetJoe 1400. I was actually surprised that this motor handled very well. As you can see when I came in hot on the first approach. I couldn't use the flaps because I had too much down elevator dialed in so I took my chances and came in flap-less. There was also a strong cross wind. I got it down on the second pass with no problem. I just couldn't believe that I needed that much nose weight.. This is the new version where you have to glue the nose on. It seems a bit longer than the older Shock-Jets that I've seen. Tomorrow will be more testing!

Status: offline 		The 16oz needed must be due to mounting your turbine farther aft, I also have the new version and my balances perfectly with no extra weight in the nose (just the batteries). I did, however, have to Dremel away at the former to get my Kingtech to fit with the FOD screen.

Even with the extra weight it seems to handle well. How does the JetJoe/ Shokjet combo fly compared to other turbines you have flown?

see page 17 and page 27 for my P-70 install. You will have to grinde the Jet Cat mount away to where all you have left are the two most inner holes left. I bought another mount from Jet Cat to do this mod.

Status: online 		Feddy, You will love that Rabbit. Out of the four turbines I have I like mine the best for the size class. Another great smaller one is my K-80. With the Rabbit in that Shock hang on to your boots with the full throttle verticals. Ha.

Status: offline 		Tip, I have the engine as close as I can without the front cover hitting. I will take pictures and post. I'm sure I could have squeezed a extra half inch forward on the mount. I flew it today and had much better results. I was able to adjust the flaps and it was perfect..A little bounce on the landing but it was my fault. As for the JetJoe, It handles pretty nice. It is a little slow on the response compared to my Kingtech and my P-80 but for what I paid for it, it is the perfect choice for a low budget fun flyer. I can fly this at my field and feel more comfortable than flying my Sprint. The Shock Jet is more forgiving because of the wing size. Here is a video of today's flight...Not that close but he caught the landing and a couple of fly-by's.

Status: offline 		Have the Rabbit mounted and almost plumbed in. 1? for the Rabbit install. I have the starter wires against the Jet Tech tank a bit. Is this to far forward? Any pics of a Rabbit install?? I think I am good where it is but just looking for second opinion. Will get some pics this weekend of mine.

Here is my Rabbit install, did have to turn the engine 180 degrees so the logo doesn't show any more. I didn't cut the former at all, I also acheived CG by placing two flight packs, turbine battery, and regulator forward.

Status: offline 		Has anyone installed the 80oz Dubro tank? It fits in the tank bay, but I'm a bit worried about the "intake" gaps on either side; they seem too small to be able to properly feed a JC Rabbit. The tank also seems a bit long; I only have about 3/4" to the rear bulkhead so the engine may need to be pushed back a bit to make sure that the starter clears the tank.

Status: offline 		I haven't installed the 80oz tank but did install the 101oz tank that TBM sells. Just have to mount the tank on its side and trim some off the back of the equipment tray. There is a picture of it somewhere in this thread. Have a K-80 installed and I had plenty of room. Was having some erratic runs until I cut the center out og the last former no problems since even in 100 degree heat.

Status: offline 		Flew the SJ with my new Rabbit on board. Loved it. I have a good balance with 2 A123 6.6 and one A123 9.9 in the nose, added no weight. I have the 101 oz tank and flew around 1/2 throttle for over 8 min. did 3 touch and goes and landed with around 1/2 tank left, GREAT. The throttle response is almost like a EDF!!! Having trouble with the pics

Going from what you said about your flight times my 64 Oz tank should give me 6/7 mins at half throttle. Gonna have to think this one over real hard. Ha. Thanks for posting all the pics. Roy.

Status: offline 		Well hopefully I'll get to maiden my SJ this weekend at the Parma Jet Rally! I don't have my waiver yet, but may be able to knock it out too. Here is my SJ with a P70 kero start installed, Tight fit with major surgury and the 101 ounce TBM tank. Looks like 18 ounces will balance it with the wing off at the 3" mark

Status: offline 		I have a P-70 in mine and you will love that combo.  I don't have the TBM tank in mine because I have the Jet-Tech tank but either way you will love it.  Very easy flier and you won't have any issues.  Good luck with the maiden and with your waiver.  Keep up posted on how you do as well as the plane.

Status: offline 		The one thing I noticed is you battery is back by the ECU.  I placed all 3 batteries as far forward as possible and that helped with the balance.  In fact, after I added the second 2600mAh Li-Ion in the nose for the receiver, it balanced with no additional weight needed.  Just an FYI on maybe shifting your batteries in the nose to help.  Also, I did not have to shim anything on the motor and I did not touch the trims and still haven't.  Also,  watch how much down elevator you mix with the flaps.  I added what TBM sort of recommends as a starting point and it was too much for me.  The nose pitched down pretty good but I was still able to easily manage it with the stick.  So I dailed out a bit and now for full flaps I am almost using what they recommend for half flaps and no elevator mixed with half flaps.  Now, that is my set up and everyone else is different just letting you know what I am seeing with mine and the P-70 combo.  Hope it helps.
