Hey guys just a quick update on a few mods made on my shock after the maiden weekend. Was traveling the last two weeks but tested the changes before I left.
I moved the CG forward since I started out a bit to far back, got a bit mixed up between the wings on wings off positions. Changed the throttle curve on my bee to linear thrust. I use throttle management a lot and having the huge increase in the last 25% of throttle travel did not feel good during the first four flights.
Finally, chased down a small air leak since the UAT got more air in it than I consider acceptable after a few min of flight. Did one test flight on these mods before I left and really enjoying the SJ now. Hope to get more in this weekend. Love the bee, kero start is flawless so far and a really great match for the SJ.

Cheers

Andy

Today I was able to get an actual MPH on my shock using GPS. Topped out at 128mph, I'm running a JC Rabbit V100 with the thrust reduced to approximately 15.5lbs.

Anwered all my questions as far as the speed thing goes.

Here is a video of a SJ catastrophic structural failure, some may say it was a builders error and some even dare to say it was a pilots error. you be the judge

Sorry, I could not resist to post it like that
BTW I love the SJ and I fly one myself, and I have sold 12 of them (this one included) to jet beginners, this guy just took it too seriously when I told him that it is so ease to fly that you can fly it anywhere

Pilot error - stop the video at the moment of impact and you can see the right wing tip hit the power lines.

Yeah, definitely pilot error. You can even see where part of the nose was broken off before it hit the ground, so you know it had to have flown through the wires. I bet the lamps in the nearby houses probably slid across the tables, too.

Not very safe flying conditions to begin with. Taking off from the pits across the flight line, flying over spectators on both ends, flying over houses - could be a disaster waiting to happen, IMHO.

My ShockJet is about finished. We have 3 in my Ocala, Fl club. For you that have a question about fuel tank size, we all have the TBM 101oz tank. It goes in on it's side with just a little trimming of the ply in the front that it goes up against. I have a King Tech K- 80 in mine, as does one other. You could have a 10 min flight with that tank, & still have enough fuel to make your alternate airport. We all have Ail Crow mixed in with the flaps. You can almost walk along side it on landing. What a fun way to get into Turbines.

Need some help from the SJ owners! Have had my SJ for a "long" time but never did work on it. Finally I am putting it together for this season. I did not find the BFT mount in my box or in the plane. Could someone either post a picture of it or if you have not assembled and installed it possibly draw it out and email it to me. Or, post it here. Thanks!

Hiya Harry,
I sold my SJ to a member of our club. He hs put a KT 80 in it.
I MAY have a spare UAT or BFT (or whatever you want to call it) mount laying around out of one of my old SJ's.
IF you want it let me know and I'll look in my shed and see if I can find it. If so I could possibly send it to ya.

George

I think he means the lite-ply mount, not the uat itself.

Funny thing today. I have been flying 30 to 35% gas planes for about three years. I recently built my shock, I have been so excited that the shock is about all I've been flying. Since Feb. 19th I now have 32 flights on my shock. Interesting enough the excitement from the speed is gone, it seems rather ho-hum in that department but it's still a blast to fly.

Today I flew the shock two times and pulled out one of my favorite gassers. Flip the prop and she fired right up (good ole DA). On take off I rolled knife edge about 10 feet off the deck and started my knife edge circle...I pushed harder and harder on the thottle until it was maxed out. At that point I felt like the plane had no power (which it has plenty). I rolled level and did a full throttle pass down the runway.... man it seemed like it took forever to cover our 600 feet of grass runway. I actually flew the gasser with caution today because everything seemed so slow.

Funny what nearly 130mph will do to you, it made all my other models under powered

George, you are a lifesaver! Definitely want it! Just didn't want to go through the hassle of figuring out the angle and all.

Miss you out at the site. How are things going in MI.

Let me know what I need to do to get the mount!

The usual angle for mounting a UAT is 45 degrees. Get within a few degrees of this and you're golden.
