Just for the record, I'm not trying to sway anyone from doing it the way they want to or are used to but I found something that I think works pretty good.

I've switched from using air tool oil to Marine Fogging oil for my weekend to weekend oiling maintenence. I was at the autoparts store in the marine section and ran across what I think is a much better alternative to air tool oil or any of the "drip some in the hole" type of afterun oils.

The reason being that the fogging oil comes in an aerosol spray can. You shake the can real well and shoot a stream of high preassure oil into the carburetor (with the crank port inline) and it coats the entire bottom end and blows "UP" into the ports.

I've always been concerned that unless you damn near "fill" the crankcase, remove the plug and spin the engine over untill air tool oil blows out the top of the cylinder that your never sure the bearings are getting a good lube job. Cleaning the airtool oil out of the cylinder head fins is a pain and the excess just drips down the side of the crank case and into the car/truck....

I don't think anything works as well as a oil filled plastic bag/coffee can method for extra long storage and wouldn't argue otherwise.

I've been using it for awhile now and I find that you can start the engine after a few days without burning a teaspoon full of airtool oil out of the engine.
It's much cleaner.
Obviously I don't use 1/5 of a can as the instructions state but you get the picture.

®PENNZOIL MARINE FOGGING OILPRODUCT DESCRIPTION®PENNZOIL MARINE FOGGING OIL is specially formulated to protect internal engine parts in two- and four-cyclegasoline and diesel powered marine engines. Protects against rust and corrosion during seasonal and long storage periods.®PENNZOIL MARINE FOGGING OIL provides protection for cylinder walls, pistons, rings, valve guides, and intake®system components. It displaces water to help prevent damage from moisture accumulation. PENNZOIL MARINEFOGGING OIL offers maximum protection for the whole engine when it is combined with Pennzoil Marine Fuel SystemStabilizer.
APPLICATION®PENNZOIL MARINE FOGGING OIL is recommended for all inboard and outboard motors, gasoline or diesel. It mayalso be used for lawn mowers, chain saws, snow mobiles and motorcycles.Remove air cleaner and/or flame arrester. Spray approximately 1/5 of the can (1 minute) through carburetor or throttlebody with the engine running at half throttle. Shut down engine immediately upon completion of spraying. Remove sparkplugs and spray Fogging Oil directly into cylinders. With the spark plugs removed, crank engine over a few times to fullycoat cylinder walls and piston rings. Replace spark plugs, air cleaner, and/or flame arrester. Exposed metal linkages mayalso be sprayed for complete rust protection.
®PENNZOIL MARINE FOGGING OIL DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY CHLORINATED SOLVENTS OR CFCs.®For complete fuel system protection, PENNZOIL MARINE FUEL SYSTEM STABILIZER should be added to the lasttank of fuel used prior to storage.
BENEFITS• Helps protect internal engine parts from rust and corrosion due to moisture• Lubricates and provides protection during storage• Suitable for inboard and outboard motors• Easy start up for the following season after storage• Spray-any-way valve for easy application• No CFCs or chlorinated solvents.

Anyway, just thought I'd pass it along.

Seems like a good product.
Automatic Transmission fluid also does a good job without all the air tool oil drawbacks. I make some up with lighter fluid (naphta) @ 50% mix, and with glow on, squirt a prime in the engie and let the engine run itself out of the prime. This removes all traces of corrosive methanol byproducts.

I have used fogging oil for years. I usually wash the engine out with wd40 first then hit it with the fogging oil. I race rc boats and when you mix high nitro fuels and water you quickly get rust. This method has served me well for years.
