I am gonna get a 4-tec soon, possibly used. I was wondering what mods I should do. I heard somewhere I should change the shocks. I would like better handeling, and possibly lightening the car. I am a noob so please show some specific products or brands. Thanks.

better shocks, sway bars, CVEC pipe, and get the optional gear sets if you want more top speed.

the rear sway bar rocks, I don't like the front at all, and some asphalt type tires, ( thick foam, no inserts, mine keeps tossing the stock foam cores out lol)

I run Odonell 20% all the time.

as for wheels/tires, I use 35 to 45 shore foams on my 4-tec...rubber tires, regardless of compound just spin and get worn out too fast

I used to run O'Donnells 20% but my lhs no longer carries it. So I made the switch to Sidewinder. Great fuel so far.
As for hopups better tires than stock. My brother used the HPI xpattern and had great results.

I have heard of people using the HPI X-pattern tires and having good results...but me personally, I use them as drift tires...but then again if you look at my 4-tec you can see why.

What do you guys think of this 4-tec on ebay if I can get for under $150?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&item=330256298000

I am planning to do some serious mods, but start off small, because I am a noob. I was gonna get a graphite or cf frame so the one with scratches will not matter. I don't really want to change the engine anytime soon.

EAG, the problem with ebay is that 4-tec's and NTC3's, and the other top speed nitro cars really dont stay under $200..by the time that auction is over, its going to be around $250+..

I would suggest finding a rolling chassis, then mod from there. It will be cheaper and you will have the time to check the car over without taking too many things off, and then start with what you want.

We will see. I have been the highest bidder for a little over 1 day now and there is like 3 days left. Hopefully it will stay under $200.

CEN advertises 70+ out of the box, but I dont believe it..there is a thread where one of the members actually did the calculations, and came up with only 50+mph.. sure there are some veriables that could play a factor in a higher top end, but if you want all out speed and decent handling, the 4-tec is your best bet...plus it can take a few good hits and keep going.
