Hey all,

I'm VERY new to rc planes, but learn fast. I am a new teacher and would like my class to build rc planes from the ground up, remotes included. I am fairly confident in most areas of construction, other than the circuitry of remotes. Is there a "Bible" out there to help me build remotes/recievers?

p.s. I apologize if I sound like a complete rookie, but I think this project would be MUCH more fun than your average Physics class.

Thanks!

I understand that most remotes are quite complex and manufacturers don't readily make their patented designs available. I'm looking for some very basic designs that will teach basic electronics and function at short distances.

If it were me i would be looking towards robotics. i'm sure there are some good forums around the net that can get you on the right track. You could probably then setup some wireless robotics program. RC planes electronics are highly advanced and i'm sure it would be beyond most all beginners. I know i would not want to trust a radio i built to guide a plane i spent so much time on. Even using a commercial bought radio setup and building a plane from scratch is a major undertaking. Perhaps that would be the better route in order to be assured of success.

Thanks skeeter,

I've decided to buy a remote and have the students learn learn about it without building it. We're looking to build small electric kits that we can fly at the school feilds with help from the local club. Any recommendations on where I might find good prices on bulk servos and electric motors?

Thamks for your help!

best bet would be second-hand off ebay or maybe sweet-talk your local LHS (get coverage in the local newspaper or on the 'net?)

are you planning to build your own reciever?

My electronics knowledge is rather shaky, so i'll probaly stick to the basics and have the students disect a servo to study electric motors.

Newteach, go to Hobby City dot com , they've got cheap servos like these - http://tinyurl.com/5uex54 and receivers also. Look around.

I think we'll probably start off with some indoor flyer setups, appropriate for the gym or fields at the school.
