I dont know anyone who got seriously hurt personally, but I did read about someone's finger getting sucked into the spur of a 1/8th conversion.

i agree with allwaysdreamin, anything is dangerous in the wrong hands, for me with the BL systems out there, you definately have to be carefull because of the increased speeds... lithium batteries should be handeled with more care but they won't blow up instantly if you do one thing wrong, they are actually quite resilent (to an extent), just be safe and have fun, thats what its all about

I don't think 1/10 scale racing would be that dangerous unless in a freak situation. Now my baja5b 1/5 scale buggy, I can see that being a different story as it weighs over 20 pounds. If it got out of control and hit a smaller kid or something at top speed it could do alot of damage...

i have raced electrics for years and have found that something is only as unsafe as you make it.

e.g. if you mess about with electrics, and dont show them respect, you will get hurt.

as for marshalling accidents, if you stay on your toes, and keep your eyes open you should be fine

Well like I said, I never saw anybody get hurt physically, nor have I even heard of it in person, except through online forums like this one. And so far the only things mentioned have been impact-related (person hit by car) or burn-related (touched a hot motor or an iron).

Racing is pretty safe, but most accidents I see come from people just not being aware of their surroundings.

I saw a five year old get nailed by a truggy doing about 40 mph down a straight at a race recently. The kid was standing too close to the track and the truggy went out of control and flew off the track going down a long straight and literally flew right into the kid's chest at 100% throttle. Everyone thought that kid got killed. I am talking complete hush of silence when that happened. The little bugger started wailing but jumped right up and was ok. I think a couple of inches higher and he would have been killed. That truggy could have easily decapitated him or given him a serious facial injury. Seriously, just imagine a 10 lbs truck going 40 mph and hitting a 50lb five year old full bore in the chest. I ain't talking the truck flipped over and just happened to hit the kid. I am talking the truck went into the kid head on at full throttle. It was like it was off one of those TV shows showcasing stunts and accidents going bad...

I have seen plenty of marshalls hit by flying buggies. Ususally it is because the marshall doesn't look both ways before running on to the track to flip over a buggy. I see this most often when little kids try to marshall. It is even worse when I racing my brushless RC8 since they can't hear me coming down the straight at warp speed!!

Regarding Lipo fires. it is over blown. I did see one truck go nuclear though at a race. The guy tried to jump a huge triple and came up short and his car literally burst in to flames on impact. It was a truggy conversion. I am talking mushroom cloud and fireball. Straight out of a John Woo movie. Talking to the guy afterwards, he didn't seem to know what he was doing and it was just a case of someone running an improper setup with a shotty conversion. I have being runing 1/8 electric for the past year now and I have never had a lipo fire. I puffed a pack, but that is about it.
