Some of you guys may remember, I had a bunch of competition 1/8th nitros a while ago, all Xray.

Unfortunately a couple of years ago, the break in of an RB TM 928 in my XT8 was enough to put me off nitro for a good long while, and I went to gas cars, I have a few large scales now... I just lost patience with nitro, and needed to take a break.

Anyway it transpires that a couple of people I recommended the hobby to, have gone and bought some 1/8th cars, an inferno GT, and a couple of buggies... So I figured in order to get out and play with them, I should get another 1/8th nitro. After a bit of searching, I found an MBX5T prospec in a local store for a good price in great condition (slightly second hand), and I'm going to pick it up.

It has a Boss (Falcon/GRP) .28 in it... anyone know anything about this motor? I'm guessing it's going to be very similar to the Ninja .28, but would like confirmation. If so, then it looks like I got a great deal (around $500 for a nearly new trug with this engine in it)... Any feedback about this motor would be useful. I'll post some pics of the trug when I get it. Thanks all.

No, it's a prospec roller that's gone through 2 litres of fuel. That's a $600 kit and a $400 engine basically run in for me. I'll be putting a pair of hitec servos cos I picked em up very cheap, and I'm short of cash at the moment. They'll do the job fine, I'm not racing anyway, it's just to bash with a couple of friends. So it'll have a Hitec 5955 Ti gears with 333oz-in of torque and .15 transit, and a Hitec 5645 on the throttle/brake, I use a 3pk with spektrum pro module, so I'll put a standard SR3000 receiver in it, and dial it in on the 3pk. I only need a starter box now and I'll be set.

So, nobody know anything about the engine?

As far as I know it's identical to the Ninja (Ninja, Falkon, and Boss are all the same..) Supposed to be pretty beastly... I know, for whatever reason.., you can buy Falcon and Ninjas here in Germany.. Boss's I've seen for sale in some of the Hong Kong shops.. Whether there's a difference in quality or anything, or if it's just marketing or whatever, I don't know.. Should rip, would be my guess...

Its a great engine, we get them here, a friend of mine runs one in an X1 CRT and that thing just goes. Pretty easy to tune, and pretty good on gas. Last I checked he was getting 7 - 8 mins of run time..

For $500, its a great price. Go for it... Good choice on the servos too.

Good Luck..!

Thanks qaiz...

OK, new question... As I mentioned, I'm only going to be bashing and jumping initially (though who knows later, maybe I will hit the track again), so I'm going to go super hard in the centre diff, 50k.

Lets assume that I am running a ninja .28, which is what this engine is for all intents and purposes, everywhere I read...

What gearing are people running in the MBX5T with the Ninja .28? And what clutch springs? I was thinking of going big on the clutch bell cos I'll be bashing on car parks with 2 speed inferno GTs. I was thinking maybe 18 on the CB, and some lightweight clutch shoes, or stiff clutch springs to compensate for the increased gear ratio. What do you guys think?

Thanks, I think I'm gonna try a 16 first and go from there.
