THIS IS MY FIRST YS ENGINE, AND I NEED TO KNOW A FEW THINGS.
I LIVE AT ABOUT 5800FT AND USE REDMAX 15% FUEL, OS#F GLO PLUG.
MY FIRST PROP I TRIED WAS THE 16X4W APC, AND I ONLY REACHED ABOUT 8300RPM......IS THAT RIGHT FOR MY ALTITUDE??
THE SECOND PROP IS A 14X6 APC, AND REACHED JUST ABOUT 10K.
I'VE READ THAT THIS ENGINE IS HAPPY AROUND 9500R'S, WOULD THE 15X4W BE IN THE RANGE??
I HAVE THIS ENGINE ON THE RAZZLE 3D AND WAS EXPECTING GREAT THINGS, BUT THE ENGINE STRUGGLES TO HOLD THE PLANE IN A HOVER....ABOUT 3/4 TO FULL THROTTLE.
SHOULD I EXPECT MORE OUT OF THE ENGINE??
THE ENGINE HAS GREAT COMPRESSION, BUT CLICKS EVERYTIME I TURN IT AROUND........COULD THE TIMING BE OFF JUST ENOUGH TO CAUSE A LITTLE VALVE NOISE? I DID BUY THIS ENGINE USED!
IT RUNS GREAT, IDLES GREAT AND HAS GREAT TRANSITION, BUT I EXPECTED A LITTLE MORE POWER CAPTAIN!!
ANY INPUTS ARE APPRECIATED!!!!!

You gotta feed it 20% to get the max out of it, it was engineered to run on 20% nitro.

The clicking you hear is common to most four strokes. It is normal.

With this clicking noise, sometimes when I turn the engine over, it feels like it's binding something.....just a little bit, but that conserns me.

I have A YS-91Ac and run a Graupner Prop 15X8 and it turns around 9000 plus. If you want the power use at least 20percent oil and nitro of 20 percent. It will perform super on Heli 30 percent try it and see/feel the difference. Make sure you adjust the valve clearance after a hour of run time when new.

The slight resistance you feel is the cam pushing the valves open

Enjoy,

Jim
