You have got to be kidding! When they glued them on, they used more glue than when they glued every other piece on combined! I tried, they are very stuck! Guess I'll have to grind them off with the dremel....

VERY NICE on the sponson box handles. Big improvement over what was there. Whats that on the fender....fire extiguisher? That goes inside to the right of the driver's seat. The handle in the small box behind the hatch should be red....that's the main fire extinguisher release.

color looks good..and the aux periscopes for the driver-bog should be dremmel'd off level. The 1000 CFM Rotoclone blower motor took up all the room and those 2 scopes were removed. If you want to keep the scopes, carefully cut the size of the housing down and plug up the 2 rear holes for an early WW II model. .

Are they the two inner periscopes? I don't want to remove the wrong ones.... Fire extinguishers are off- never noticed they were cast metal (from some upgrade I guess- don't know what the "professional" detailler was thinking).

He was thinking. "Dem shiney thing-a-majiggies fit raight heeyah purty good!"

They came with the metal tracks. Yes, the inner periscopes, the ones next to the blower were deleted from production and soon after WW2 on all M26s.

The two inner scopes near the blower housing were the aux scopes in case the hatch mounted ones got shot out. (E8 Shermans had the same setup.) After the 400 CFM Rotoclone was replaced by the 1000 CFM, there wasn't enough room and the aux scopes were deleted on most Pershings after the first 500. The holes for the scope mounts were patched over by a steel plate. That was always a very weak spot for a shell hitting the lower part of the mantlet, with the possibility of a riccochet into the driver-bog areas. Similar early Panther shot trap scenario.

So it would be more accurate if I make it a bit lumpy in a ring, where the patch panel was welded into place.

Man, it's really a kick doing the detailling on these tanks. I'm looking forward to tearing my PanTiger apart this winter and trying to make it more accurate- but that really will be a big job! I'm going to wait till the snow flies- don't want to take away from our (very short) motorcycle riding season.

Anyway, so far today I've removed the fire extinguishers, ground off the aux periscopes and filled them, and have gotten about halfway on fabricating the periscope protection for the three (one on the turret). And tomorrow is another day! I'll post a pic or two once I finish fabricating one of the protective cages for the periscopes....

Well, for better or worse I've made the cages for the periscopes. I am very disappointed now that I am looking at the results compared to the walkaround pics I've collected- the model has the periscopes at an angle whereas the real tank had them level. This is emphasized by the cages unfortunately.... The turret one looks ok though. For anyone interested, they are made from paperclips, with JB Weld to affix the crossbars. Tiny, tiny spots of JB Weld.... <cross-eyed look>

Maybe a gentle heating on the underside, then pushing the hatch up at the bend line.....Has anyone fixed this problem before?

WHEW!!!!

Man, talk about "heart in mouth" model surgery.... I flipped the deck, torched the underside of the hatches and squared them with a coat hanger form I had made in prep. Here is how they turned out. I am satisfied.... the cages are horizontal just like the pics of real tanks instead of them being at an angle as shown in my previous pics. But putting heat to plastic is very hard- especially when you have never tried anything like this before!

Excuse me, I need to go change my underwear now....

Man, thats some really great work, and made from paper clips, even more impressive. I cheated and ordered my periscope guards from GB Now what you could do is add periscope heads to reall set it off. Get some scrap plexiglass mirror....any place dealing with plexi or bathroom improvment will have it, and scraps you should be able to pick up as trash. Cut strips 10mm wide, 4mm high & 4mm deep, keep the mirror facing out and taper the rear at 45 degrees and cement to the molded covers on the hatches and loader's psition. The TC hatch needs one, and it's a real easy build with the periscope head on the outer or top of the hatch cover, facing out. The HL hatch cover has the molded scope cover in a good location. The gunner's telescope needs a rounded piece set in a couple mms to replace that stupid red light. The addition of the "glass'' really adds a lot to the model, especially if it's displayed with lights looking at it to pick up the glare. The gunner's scope did not have a guard, even though it was the most important one on the tank Only a metal cover. A hatch locking ring can be added to the TC hatch....a simple oval ring on the top of the outer ring of the hatch. My photos are a bit dark and one blurred due to underexposure, but I wanted to show the affect of the "glass". Normally, you'd have to take off the guard brackets to install the heads, but as high as you have them, you may be able to slide them in.

Now I am going to have to do some serious work on replacing my molded-on sponson box handles. Seeing so much nice work going on, its really impressive so will try to find the time.
