Status: offline 		The engine is an asp180 & the canopy frame is made from strips of 3mm lite ply laminated & shaped as required

glazing is thin acrylic sheet

No. I am not going to use the so called "air brake"

It was, in effect a cooling flap for the radiator I think.

I will only use the 2 lower flaps + drop the ailerons a bit as per full size.

I have beefed up the engine moun too for the ASP180 f/s

Status: offline 		The retracts were specially made for a 6ft span 109 that we were going to produce before ARTF knocked the kit market to bits over here.

They were produced for us by Unitract here in the uk for about $180 including oleo legs.

they are set to 85degs

Status: offline 		I have the Sierra retracts for this plane , the only issues I have wih them is that they are not scale and shorter just so they fit with no wing modifacations .
I was going to buy the Sierra gear made for the KMP version of this plane but that would have required a wing bash and I was not taking on the project with so many others on my table

Status: offline 		The wing on mine has been well & truly "bashed"

I had our fabrication shop make a new wing tube to get the correct dihedral

the legs are now the right(ish) length & in the proper position which meant a rebuild of the centre section

I also chopped the under panel about so it fairs more into the wing underside.

God, I hope all this is worth it!!

Status: offline 		Well I have been designing & flying this sort of bird for more years than i care to remember !

With all the mods she is coming out suprisingly light for a 109 of this size.

the 180 should provide enough grunt & the CG is in a safe position.

The test flights will be on a large airforce base with all the room in the world.

Status: offline 		I think your modifications are right on and not only will make the plane look better, but fly better as well. I did similar modifications as you are doing, but will a full cockpit and full sized pilot. I did link the flaps together with bell-cranks and one servo like we did in the old days to save weight and with the mods, it came out at less than 14 lbs. I use a Saito 180. Really, the biggest modification was changing the wheels to a scale location, and while it makes it a little more narrow tracked, there is no problem with nose-overs at all. I am using the Shinden gear made for the KMP 109 (almost scale length) and they are wonderful retracts. That allowed me to move the CG to the forward mark without the fear of noseover and the plane flys quite easily. The rudder must be used with care on takeoffs with the more narrow gear, but landings are actually easy. I have not had one nose-over and have landed the plane very fast at times on a grass field. I bought another one and plan on doing the same modifications again. I like what you have done with the canopy and bellypan and will likely do the same next time.

Status: offline 		I cant start another bash , I am finally in the stages of riviots ect on my CMP Fw190 , it has sierra retracts , split flaps , full interior , air powered sliding canopy , retractable tail wheel ect ect .
My wife siad "you got thing three years ago as an arf , whats the point lol "
I said hey , "I married you 25 years ago , and i pay for the implants today "
That did not go over well my friends !!!!

Call me a stickler but I hate rtf war birds with not enough diherdral. They nevere look quite right. On most war birds when viewed from the front the line rfom wing tip to wing tip passes through or nearly through the centre of the spinner. I have built quite a few 109's over the years so know their quirks.Having a full size licence I was fortunate some years ago to sit in the cockpit of "Black 6", the 109G that had just been bought back to flying condition over here & gun the throttle. the noise from that Daimler Benz Was amazing. You dont really realise how small the cockpit is till you sit in it

As regards being twitchy on take off I have a quarter scale focker DV111 monoplane fighter (ww1) with a zenoa 38 up front  that rights the book about twitchy.

I suppose it depends on what size of mill you are putting in.
Mine has an ASP180 F/S going in it.
I have fitted a new servo tray using a couple of high torque hitech digital sevos for the elevator & rudder.
I have dumped the original push rods for closed loop on the rudder.
The elevator halves have been joined with a carbon fibre rod & a more robust push rod fitted.

If I had not intended to do a smash on the airplane I would have been most disapointed with the kit (oh & it was cheap!

Standard size servos are fine. JR ds-821's are what i put in. I used two servos for the elevator...one per side and ran independant pushrods(4-40) thru the carbon tubes supplied with the kit. The carbon tubes were simply used as guide tubes instead of th actual pushrod. For the rudder....I used a high torque HS 5645MG(metal gear).

I put electric in mine...e-flite power 160 on 10s lipo.
Retracts are the Sierran Giant stuff made specifically for this plane.
If you wanted to run a glow motor....Id go with a 4stroke 180 size or a 2 stroke 1.08-1.20.
Gas? well..id do with a rail mount evolution 26-32cc size or cut out the mouting rails all together and fit in a dle30 or put in a saito 180 gas

I have seen meeserschmidtman's Foker DV111 fly at our old site he use to fly at and it was the most twichy thing I had ever seen.
