I did repaint the same plane. wish I had 2! The decals are from Major Decals at Tower Hobbies. The cross on the fuse is the only one that came with the plane. I used masking tape when I painted it. I think I used the 40 sized ones. Major has .40 size and .60 sized WW2 German markings.

Status: offline 		 I truly like all the mods several of you have put into this airframe.  My plan however is to do as little as possible and get it into the air and fly it for a while.  If I like it as I suspect I will I will then ground it to invest the time and effort in a true bash.

i have the CMP hellcat that I flew for two seasons and it is presently on a building table going through a overall.  I am installing several of Luke's modifications on it.  I did the same to the CMP Peashooter.

For me flying it allows me to enjoy it in a fun fly manner, all the while making notes of what it would need during an overhaul.

                       I'm thinking about getting another one and repainting it to match the 109-F ,  Black 8,  flown by Otto Kittel.  I guess I'll have to reread the thread to figure out how to remove the decals and start from scratch.   ,

Status: offline 		Me too Kahlog, that is the current paint job on it. I posted the pics backwards. The desert one was the first one I did. I got tired of it since it is so bland and I used Walmat special paints, .

The latest scheme I copied mostly off a plastic display model I got for one of my many birthdays. I am not sure which theater it represents but I like the colors better.

Messer, I didn't remove the decals I just painted over them.

Sharpeye, do you have retracts in the Hellcat? if so which ones did you use? A friend crashed his and gave it to me. I fixed it but I want retracts on it.

Status: offline 		 Well the Sierra retracts with the Down and Locked conversion is out due to cost.  

Sierra retracts $250
Down and Locked concersion $350
$600 is to much for me for a set of retracts.

the reason I was leaning toward this option was I wanted the struts built into the retracts instead of attached with a 5mm pin and set screws.

I guess I will opt for the E-flight 120s or the Lados.  Both of which I have used in the past.  That means adding the struts via the pin and set screw method.

Anyone still active on this chat, Can you tell me how far back from the LE the wheels were.
I have Eflite 60m -120 retracts and if I mount them on the rails as is with the wheels centre in the wells when down they are only about 30mm in from of the CofG. Looks too close and I see many comments on nose overs.
i have a few ideas to move them forward but has any one experience in where and how to position the wheels.

Status: offline 		 I am using the e-flight 120s as well.  I am going to block up the back retract rail so when extended the wheel will be further forward then the wheel well is.  This should give me the added distance forward of the CG to prevent nose overs.  I hope this helps.

Status: offline 		Just thought I would post an update to my build.  I have the engine compartment completed and most of the cockpit done.  Next I will be working on installing the servos for the tail, pushrods, and of course the tail.

Status: offline 		I use the Sierra Retracts, and they have some forward cant that puts the axles about at the leading edge. You'll need to be about that far forward, or nose overs will be hard to prevent. The Sierra's also do not extend a full 90 degrees, so they help the width of the gear and give the right splayed out look that you expect on a 109.

Sharpeye, I like your cockpit, I was thinking about updating mine. What have you found for a pilot? Will a 1/5 scale pilot work?

Status: offline 		 A 1/5th scale is way to big.  I have a couple of Dragon pilots.  I will do surgery on the one I will use to lighten it up a lot.  (Replace the body with foam and only use the head, hands, boots, and cloths/gear). At 1/6th it is still just slightly to long but when I craft the body I will fix that.

Status: offline 		Any of those pilots should look great. The BF-109 is a small aircraft, it's hard to believe that the CMP model is about 1:5.3 scale. I'm sure a 12" figure will give it the right look and still fit within the limits of the cockpit kit. I have a Ki-61 that's 1:5.5 scale, and a 12" Zero pilot GiJoe makes for a perfect 5' 5" Japanese pilot in the cockpit.

Status: offline 		In reality, the ME-109 is/was a really small plane with a huge motor strapped to the front. A 1/6th size pilot is actually pretty accurate. The actual scale size of this plane is 1/5.3

Status: offline 		The BBI, 21 st century, elite force pilots are becoming more and more scarce on Ebay . Seems like the 1/6 action figure craze has run its course. The body on the figure is quite heavy so I recommend building a foam body. It does not take long but will save a lot of weight. Here is my post earlier in this thread. Tero T in Toronto

    I had read your post and got inspiration from it.  I am going to use styrofoam with paper-mache over for stability instead and craft it in a fixed position.  It should turnout even lighter than the denser foam you used.

Mine was heavier then most at 16.5 pounds simply because I converted it to electric and the batteries made up that extra weight.

Status: offline 		Ok sounds good . I look forward to seeing your light weight figure. That is the thing about these forums is that you are constantly picking up good tips from all contributors. One point on most of the Action figure German pilot life preservers is the filler. They have them filled with cotton making them look like they are inflated. Use an exacto knife and slit near a seam ,pull out the filler and glue the seam shut. The life vest needs to lay flat to look proper.. Tero T in Toronto
