I just sent back 4 475's to tower . 2 outa 4 were bad . One took 6 clicks of trim before it would move and both wouldn't center proper . I'm putting 2 digital s3151 futabas on ailerons and s3050 MG HT on the rudder and elevator . Run it at 6v and I should get some decent speed too . What kind of RX's does everyone run in there planes . I have 2 extra futaba r-149's but there kinda big . I have never run 6volts before is there anything I need to be aware of in a RX to handle that ? I now the PCM's I have can handle it if I use one .

I have an OS AX46 lying around, has anyone tried it with this motor? If so, did it fly well or was it a dog?

anyone tried regular 422 nylon gears? i think id use those before i got the 475 karbonite, seems the next step up would be 625's, which ive used several digital versions of those and love them, but there a bit heavier so it may add up using 4 or 5 of them, thats why i was really leaning for the 225's but sounds like some of you say they cant hang with the plane

I have used the 425 nylon gear servos without any problem so the 422 should be OK. The Futaba 3010 is also an inexpensive lightweight servo with a little more torque. They also seem quite a bit faster to me. Make sure you run either of these on 6 volts otherwise they are a little two slow for the fast reaction of these planes. The 625's would be a good setup. Fast and plenty of torque on 6 volts. You will never notice the few extra grams of servo or battery weight in these planes but you would really notice a weak, slow or poor centering servo. You set these up with 45+ degrees of travel on really large surfaces so a good fast servo is nice to have.

i didnt know there was a 425, i thought it was 422, anyway if you think the 1/4oz heavier or so on each(x4 if not 5 if i go with throttle too) for 625's wouldnt make a difference in the way it flies as far as weight, id rather get the 625's then, i like those and they are strong...i do use 6v on everything these days, what do you think for throttle then? still stay away from the 225's? i wouldnt think the saito 82 shakes that much, but its been a long time since ive flown glow, either the 425 or 625 i suppose, the 625 may help with balancing? extra weight up front ya know

I've had a 225MG in mine for the throttle since last May and have flown it a lot and no problem with the 225 so far. Have had some serious vibrations also at times with motor mount bolt failures but no servo problems. Think I finally solved the motor mount problem by glueing some aluminum stock on both sides of the motor mount area and mounting my .82 to that. Sure has helped so far with no more broken bolts and most of vibration seems to be gone. If i ever build another I'll do that from the beginning.

sounds good, thanks, im still considering trying them on all surfaces but maybe rudder or something, if i do tail touch that would be the one getting the "shock", we'll see, maybe just on wings, maybe none at all, seems to me if it handles broken mount vibrations there is no reason it cant handle flying surfaces

I have a 1500 mah Nicad in mine placed all the way forward in the wing. I think you need a couple of 24" extensions for the rudder and elevator servos and a shorter one for the aileron servo on the opposite side from your receiver.

I have a 1700mah NiCd in mine placed right under the hatch. It is a 6v setup i got from my LHS. I recently started to upgrade to NiMH packs that I found on line. I got a 2300mAh NiMH from www.all-battery.com to power my GP Reactor for $15 shipped. I will be changing all my batteries out to this setup as it is insanely powerful and it makes even the cheap standard servos I have seem alot stronger. Heres the Link:

the Yak builds tail heavy,go with the lightest servos for the tail.standard servos work just fine, been flying mine for two years with 475's and no trouble at all after way to many power on blenders.

i was wondering if id have a hard time balancing, i spoke with curtis at ef and he said any quaility standard would work, even nylon gears, but reccomended a metal gear for rudder if i actually plan on touching tail, im not sure i would intentionally, unless im 6" from the ground 100% control and id want to just graze the ground ....but anyway the rudder and the ele are the ones i wouldnt want to strip, especailly the ele, you can loose the hoole thing that way, my buddy stripped out a standard one on his mojo last time out, in flight, not even hitting the ground, luckily it was just in one spot so with some screwing around both inverted and upright it came to a place where he could get it back down safley, i was thinking of the 475's, i still had a bad taste from when the karbonite 1st came out though, i bought 635's for a funtana, i stripped 2 literally just by bumping the surface, then i deliberately stripped the rudder simply by moving the surface back and forth by hand, when i switched direction after the 3rd or 4th time it stripped, maybe they changed the composition or something since then, but i wasnt impressed at all with them years ago, and i know i wasnt the only one stripping them out, there was reports of guys loosing bigger planes from failures, but even chirs at ef is using the 475's now with good success, so i am considering them too, the price isnt that much different to the 625's for metal gear, they say .4oz heavier each, times 2 for rudder and ele, will that make it that much harder to balance???i know they are overkil for torque, but they are fast and metal gear, and after looking at specs, the standard 422 nylon is faster than the 475

I run HS 635s in a 60 size Mojo and a OMP 40 size fusion for two seasons with no problems great servos and that's what is going in my Chinn Yak
and a HS 85 MG on the throttle.

i ended up getting 425's and a 225 for throttle, i went with those cause they are a tad quicker than the 475s, and curtis with ef says nylon gears will be fine, if i strip one on the tail and still land safely i will get 625 metal after that...
got it glued up and hinged today...yeah!!!

I'm thinking about getting this plane after I planted a Morris Hobbies Gee Whiz Bee today. I have a new Saito .82 GK for it. The question I have is can I use Hitec HS-5245 digital mini servos in this plane? The servos are metal gear with 61.1 oz./in. of torque but are smaller than standard servos. Can these work/fit or do I need standard size servos. I don't want to get the plane and find out I need to get new servos as the ones I have only have 5 short flights. Has anyone used servos other than standard size?
Thanks

i asked about using 225mg's here and from ef in person, they say even though the torque is enough they dont reccomend it because the smaller gears cant hanlde the vibration as much as a standard size, however they did say some use them on the 58extra even when usning a glow motor though, but i opted not to do it, and you would need to modify the hole for the servos as well

Im still flying mine on the SC52 with standard futaba servos with the ball raced output shaft, think there the 3004s. Flys ok, fine for my flying standard at the moment, lots of fun to mess about with.

Darn .... I just checked the Extreme Flight website and the Chinn Yaks are all gone. Does anyone else carry this plane? I GOTTA HAVE ONE! Maybe they will be getting more soon.
