Hello all!

My Rio turns left extremely well. In fact, I can do a 180 in about 1.5 lengths of the boat at high speed . I snap the wheel to the left at mid-throttle, the back end whips out and sucks down hard, almost buried, the prop digs a hole, I back off the throttle and the prop get some water back and away it goes in the opposite direction. Scared the hell out of me the first time I did it, but it seems very stable when it happens, and I can do it very consistently. The biggest things seem to be backing off the throttle or the prop cavitates badly, and not going too fast as I can see the potential for submarining the boat backwards! Overall, I would have to say that it turns left better than it turns right, but right is fine too. I've tried this little maneuver going right, but it isn't quite as spectacular, but it will do it. The boat is stock except for an Ace DS1015(fantastic servo highly recommended) for steering and a Tower CS160 for throttle, all hooked up through a Futaba 3PM, 2.4gHz.

This is my first boat as I've been a nitro buggy/monster truck enthusiast until now, but this thing is a HOOT!. Starts easy, moves out very quickly, fantastic run times, looks good. As a noob to boats, I'm sure there are better out there, but I feel like I hit the jackpot with this thing. Of course, as with all my toys, I'll probably end up looking to mod and upgrade it .

way cool. mine came with a bad steering servo, but now it's turning left fine now. all she needs now is a hanson zen, and my trademark orange with 3 color flame job.

you get cavatation? hmmm not mine. she launches really nice, but has a tall rooster tail that i will trim out when i get her back together. bounced off a rock (aka bolder), and did very minor damage ay 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. very stout boat.

Im glad you are having fun with your Rio 51. Congrats on your smooth transition from cars to boats.

We will be racing three of them at a race in IL this weekend. We are going to leave them box stock and work up the props to get as much speed as we can.

We will be racing them in the IMPBA OffShore class (fitting) and will let you know how it goes. In the off shore class we have a left hander in there.. should be a blast..

never had a doubt that the rio was anything but good. it just has to go threw it baptism, and work out the kinks. i'm sure the KOS will have it's problems too. my only real complaint with the boat is the motor. true it's a sport boat, and not a flat out race boat, but i know i would have paid the difference of it coming with a zen. i'm sure everyone else would have too. second complaint is mine came with the rock avoidance system removed.

my hats off to ya Grim. ya did a great job with this boat. you should market it as a hull only as well. i bet you would sell a ton that way.

now off to finish the repairs, and reinstall everything back in the hull.
