Has anybody tried making a custom canopy for the boat? I was thinking of making one for my blackjack boat but not exactly sure how to approach it. What I want to do is put in a .21 Go Engine but the stock canopy won't fit. I'd like to get a flat canopy and cut a hole large enough for the engine and water lines. Any ideas?

I tried with little success. I used owens corning pink wall insulation foam. Fiberglass resin MELTS this stuff!! So on my last attempt, I read somewhere that a few thick layers of latex house paint should seal it. NOPE! The resin I used went right through it. I got one to come out ok. Lots of sanding and filling, but I'm not happy with the edges, or how it sits on the hull. The pic below is of my TC31. I added an extension on the rear for a more C1 style look. Just balsa with fiberglass cloth reinforcing it. That part came out ok. "Hesco Racing" has a solid way of making these things. might want to contact him for ideas.

If you shape something out of insulation foam, use glasscloth and epoxy to cover it, as, as you've experienced, the styrene in Polyester desolves most types of foam....

When I'm making foam parts or covering a foam part with fiberglass the latex paint works well for me, but I also spray several layers of PVA (Poly Vinyl Alcohol), a water solulable release agent directly over the dried house paint. Once the foam is covered and cured, chunking the foam out and finishing up with a hose and water to dissolve the PVA makes for a smooth inside.

I used a PVA, and 4 coats of latex house paint. I dunno. I've got perfect C1 style with my King of Shaves. My TC31 has been in a box since last season. I've spent way too much on supplies for this custom build, so at this point, I'm waiting for hesco's hatch. Or maybe I will keep working on the one in the picture so it's ready for next season. But gas is way more fun than nitro...for me! Good luck!

Heres what I'm doing to mopartybobs cowl to have the .21 to fit. I'm using the stocker and moditfieding it. Here it is,but not done with it.Where the motor is at will have a hoodscoop over it,it looks like a car version of a hood scoop plus making the turbing exaust tube for the tune pipe. The pieces are cardbord templates to see how it would look like.If this turns out the way I'm hoping too. I'm going to make a modle of it and start making some. I might be needing one my self if I get a blackjack and go with a.21.
