When I upgraded my HB main motor to a generic 280 motor I lots a lot of tail control. I could only hold it fir the first few minutes of the battery pack. The problem was than the motor was drawing too much current and not leaving enough for the tail motor.

The solution is to pick your main motor with care, or go separates (this solved my problem)

One question on the seprates though now I've got a TX that has Revo Mixing now if I go with the standard Gyro and do the mixing in the TX , is a 4ch rx enough to handle that or do I need another channel on the RX

Well seems I've answerd my own qestion checking the seprates set up on Heli Hobby one note though when you do this with a brushed/ brushless motor if your using an HH Gyro follow the diagrams for the Brushless set up because of the HH Gyro and the tail ESC have to be connected as in that Diagram signal lead from the ESC/tail to signal on the HH Gyro. In fact they shouldn't title them Brushed and Brushless it should be standard and HH Gyro

Has anyone simply tried just replacing the tail motor????

1. First question: Was your heli ever flying perfectly fine before the tail started spinning? If yes, then replace your tail motor.

2. Was your heli ever flying perfectly fine before the tail started spinning? If your gyro is changing the speed of the tail rotor when you purposely swing the tail by hand, then that means the gyro is working and yor settings are fine. Replace the tail motor.

3. Was your heli ever flying perfectly fine before the tail started spinning? If NO, do ffg:

3.1 check to see gyro responds by you swinging the tail. If it does, it is fine.
3.2. If heli still spins, try mounting gyro differently or reverse the rudder on your radio... If flight improves,,, then start adjusting your trim to get the tail blade spinning the same time as main rotor starts spinning.
3.3 No Improvement? Replace tail motor!

The tail motors on these helis can go pretty quick and def do not last long. I know two other people who have experienced this problem locally and their solution was to replace the tail motor.

The motor will wear out much faster if gyro etc is not setup properly. + the motor is a piece of cr#p which will need to be replaced as often as one replaces brushes on their modified brushed motors. If you can think of it as a normal wear and tear expense., it shouldnt be a problem.
