Hi Simon,

Yes, moving the servos to the wing does cause a slight snag. You'd have to permanently mount the booms to the wing or get creative and figure out another solution. I made my wing and boom all one piece. It's a bit odd trying to manuever the wing but really no big deal.

You are correct though with regards to the airplane getting heavier if one engine quits. Biggest problem is if the rear quits. My thoughts on this are:

1) Use a smaller tank in the rear to aid in offsetting the weigth should a flameout occur,
2) Add extra weight to the nose from the beginning
3) Make certain you land immediately should one engine quit. And from what I hear, you will have to do this anyway becasue I do not believe this airplane will climb or fly straight and level with one engine.

Anyway, think about the options. Let us knwo which route you go with.

Anthony

Hi anthony

Have took your advice and put servo mounts in the wingfor standard size ball raced servos, think i'm going to use closed loops and ball joints, thus the tail booms can still be removed, i can still glue them on permenently if i end up using it without taking the tail off.

Simon: the rear engine fuel tank is so close to the center of gravity on this design that the amount of fuel in it will have little to no effect on balance. Don't worry about it! Russ Farris

Hi

Thanks russ.

Just thinking, was about to do the aileron linkages, does it need any differential?, can of course add it from the tx later but may as well build in if its needed.

Couldn't get the closed loop to work on the elevator now going for closed loop on rudder and a pushrod on the elevator.

What do you mean by 'differential'? Do you mean more "up" aileron than "down" or vice versa? Also, what do you mean by 'closed' vs 'open' link?

I think the closed loop is push/pull setup. Differential maybe trim.

Differential is the difference between the travel of the up aileron vs. down. Nearly all setups should use almost twice as much as aileron up than down, to counteract the adverse yaw and drag of the down going aileron.

Simon, if you are using a computer radio with individual servos set it up with that vs. monkeying around with mechanical linkages. Hope this helps, Russ Farris

HI

I did indeed mean more up than down on the ailerons to counter the adverse yaw.

I do have a computer radio and can mix it in later, its just that as i hadn't made the aileron linkages it was no problem to make the links slightly longer and angle the arms back sligtly (the servos being beneath the wing) should that be what the plane requires?.

A closed look system is where linkages go from both sides of the servo arm to an horn on both sides of the control surface, usually with fishing type trace wire. although i have discovered that using 2 snakes works well to.

Hi everyone, I should be getting my hands on one of these in the coming days, still in box.  Has anyone built it in a way that the centre wing section and booms/tail remain fixed (but still removable if needed) to the fuselage, with removable outer wing panels? Any tips? Thanks.

Hi guy's,

a little life in an old topic

Any of you still flying with the marutaka cessna skymaster 336 ??

My skymaster stood on the building table for a lot of years, now finally I have the time and the courage to finish it
First 1 wanted te power it with a .50 saito 4 stroke on the front and a .62 saito 4 stroke on the back....but because mine is a bit heavier I wil power it now with two .62 4 stroke saitos.

But I have a question for you......What have you done with that abundance of balsa....look at my pictures....this is the engine room on the back....
a lot of balsa on the insite....pity of all that extra weight.

Dit you leave it there ??...or have you removed all the access of balsa, and how did you do that ?

it's a beautiful plane.....but a lot of work....and specially a lot of sanding

With regard,

Kor from the Netherlands

sorry if my english is not all the way correct

Hi,
Nice to see that this thread is still alive. Regarding the excess balsa wood, I simply used a combination of a dremmel sander and/or exacto blade the cut it away. It's pretty simple, just makes lots of sawdust!
In my skymaster I have 2 OS 70 4-stroke engines. Its pretty heavy but she flies. 2 saito 60s should be fine. Just do your best to cut away any excess wood and you should be ok. Keep posting pictures as you make progress!

Any other questions, let us know.

Anthony

Thanks man....I will cut out all that excess balsa....

oops.....two .70 engines....that is also heavely over powered if you realize that the kit was disigned for 40-40,  35-40,  35-35  or  even 29-45 2 stroke engine's

I bought my skymaster more than 10 years ago...and in the beginning the building wend fast, but then personal things happened, and the building stopped.  Now I will restart the building....and I will make some pictures and will place them here.

As I said...two .62 saito's...emsjomar sync system...landinglights and of course navigation lights ....and I am thingking of electric starters :-)

Here a picture how far the building already is...picture 2 and three...almost ready 10 years ago...pictures are taken in 2002
the first picture is how its gonna be

Thanks, and greetings,

Kor

Hello Anthony,

Just read through this fascinating thread, very sad to see that your model crashed and I hope that repairs are going well.

I notice that in all the pictures of the finished model you have the rear pusher prop mounted backwards. Hopefully it was just like that for the photos, but I thought I would point it out just in case.

Sorry if I am pointing out the obvious.

 Hi guy's,

Does anyone remember how he joined the left and right rudder together?
Did you make it with a cable through the elevator...or is there a better way

 Hi Everyone
Has anyone built this kit so that the wings split just outboard of the booms?  I'm not too confident of the way the booms come apart and then the wing is in one piece.  There used to be a kit by an Italian firm (Aviomodelli I think) where the fuselage, centre wing section, booms and tail remained in one piece and the wings plugged in just outboard of the booms for transportation.
Thanks

The rudders are joined by a pushrod that runs through a tube. The pushrod is joined to each rudder by a short piece of pushrod that is inserted into each rudder. Hope this helps.
