Mark,

I don't think I can easily remove the fixed portion. When installing it, I had to actually drill holes through the front of the cowling in order to get to the screw. I then filled the hole after installation. I figured that the only time I would really need to replace this part would be if I had a severe frontal impact and would not really care about drilling holes after that.

I'm thinking of using my dremel to cut off the mounting hole/bracket on the lower unit, then having someone weld it to the opposite side. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to weld. I'll have to take a drive out to the local welding supply store.

Hey guys,

For all of you who are looking for an oleo strut for the nose gear on your 336, I just found this link on Ebay. Would be a perfect fit for our kits if you are not adding wheel pants. Price looks pretty good too. Check it out...

Well guys, I managed to hack off the mounting bracket on the lower part of my oleo strut and lucky for me that my neoghbor across the street knows how to and has the necessary welding equipment. So, he said he'll do the welding for me. If this turns out nice, I may ask him to weld me up a custom exhaust instead of using what I had intended to use. Keep your fingers crossed!

You guys have super looking 336's coming along. I have my Royal 336 finished, but still haven't gotten around to the maiden yet. May try it this weekend if weather holds out. Mines done in the Navy O-2A version after a full scale one I found pics of. I have a Super Tiger G40 in the nose and a Fox 40 BB in the rear. While doing some taxi tests it seems to have plenty of power to fly. I'm hoping the cool weather now will take the edge off the rear engine cooling for initial flights I wish someone made the retracts for this airplane.
Pics of it are in my Gallery if you want to take a look at it.

Pete

Hey Pete,

It's great hearing from you again. I'm shocked that you have yet to fly your 336. I would be extremely eager to get a bird as nice looking as your out to the field and in the air. I've seen all your pics and it looks like you have a well built and very nicely finished model. I have no doubt in my mind that it will fly - and quite nicely at that.

Anyway, good luck if and when you fly. Let us know how things turn out. Make sure to take plenty of pics or even a video of the flight!

Yeah I know I've been putting it off for long enough. Looks like the weather will be nice this weekend and I'll try to get in a flight or two. I'm sure its going to fly OK, I'm still leary of the cooling of the rear engine. I'll get pic's and if possible a video of it in fligth. I have a CMP 182 ready to fly too, so this weekend will be a Cessna weekend for me. Since this plane was built about 20 yrs ago, and has hung in the bare bones unfinished state all that time, it still has the bellcrank style control system. I've toyed with changing this sometime, but its a tight system for now and that maybe a mod I do this winter.

Pete - you'll have no problem flying this airplane. Just stay relaxed and everything should work out fine. Even if you lose an engine, you still have one more, and although you may not be able to climb, you should have no problem maintaining straight and level flight.

Good luck this weekend and keep us in the loop on how things pan out.

Looks like no one has contributed to this string in some time. So, let me be the one to revive it with some updated pics of my Skymaster.

These pics were taken this evening shortly after applying a coat of white paint to everything. I still have to apply one additional coat of white on most of the pieces and then I'll be ready for the stripes.

Hope everyone enjoys.

Pete - just wondering if you ever flew your Skymaster??

Nope not yet. I was going to ry again this weekend but calling for rain this afternoon. Been busy with other models projects. I will fly it, I'm not one to have hanger queens. Been working on a few float planes, and a 75% foamie NorthStar that is all most done.( see gallery pics). But if all goes good I plan on flying it soon. Seeing your 336 reminds me of when mine was ready to paint, looks good. You going to do a military or civy paint scheme?

Pete

Pete,

I plan on finishing my 336 in civilian colors. Got some nice pics of an original 336. It will be white with red and grey trim.

I was able to put the second and final coat of white on mostly everything yesterday. Next somes the striping. Should start that this week. I'll keep posting updated pics.

Remember to keep us in the loop when you finally fly your 336.
