Typhoon,
No belly aching just fact. No bribe only another shot for the F-16. HONESTLY, hORIZON HAS STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE. This will either prove they are on the right track or ?. We will see. Seeing I am here at about 6500+ altitude it will afford us as well as Horizon a chance to verify some developments they are on to. They honestly want to mke the F-16 a good and exciting flyer. I was a loud voice in this thing and I will also be there to say if things are improving, and they are. Again we will see. I think we are all looking for feed back here, good or bad. I was honest and brutaly straight forword, Dave was also, I for one appreciates that. I wished no harm to Horizon just an ear and I (we) got that. So lets give them a chance....

Too bad they trusted Art-Tech to provide the motor in addition to the airframe when they 1st launched the plane. I bet it will be a nice plane with the E-Flite motor. I like (and have) Art-Tech products and think they are pretty nice in terms of quality, but the motors can leave a little to be desired, so the "lack of power" issue is no surprise.

So is this different from the Delta 480 ? Dyna Jet ? large Bottle Rocket ?

imagine95 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (3/24/2009 12:10 PM)

I know very little of the history of both motor/fan and airframe. Maybe someone from Horizon is monitoring this thread and can give us the history.

Delta-V 480 is available now with a 4000 kV motor. This is what I've asked Ed to try out. The new system I mentioned earlier isn't a new fan, it will be a higher kV motor for the Delta-V 480. It will be a couple months before we're ready to go live with it.

typhoon2007 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (3/26/2009 1:47 AM)

expecting 100mph here or what guys...the tone has really changed quick on this forum

imagine95 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (3/26/2009 3:14 AM)

You are right, the tone has changed. There is an ear listening to us and Horizon is trying to help. Respect is the name of this game and Horizon has stepped up. Things need to take a course and while they are willing to listen and produce change we should observe and draw our opinion accordingly. I will review this F-16 without prejudice and as I told Dave I will honestly report to him as well as this forum. We both have offered ourselves to the test and we both are doing our part. I honestly did not think Horizon would go this far but the have. Lets be greatful that they are concerned and want to help. One of my sayings go like this, When I am shouting - I cannot listen, when I am talking - I'm not listening, But, when I am listening "I am learning". Can you guess what I (we) are doing now ????????

bearcatf8 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (3/26/2009 6:58 PM)

OK so I wont stick a large bottle rocket up the tail pipe and send it off into the wild blue yonder !

imagine95 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (3/26/2009 11:24 PM)

Lets wait on that one for a while. Although maybe replace the rockets on the wing tips for #10 rocket motors. Hey, seriously, I am awaiting the F-16. It will be a couple of weeks before it gets its cherry busted. I have an F-18 (another) on the building board at this time so first things first. But as i promised, I will be letting you-all and Dave know as soon as it happens....

Hey Dave ,will this be a Combo motor/fan unit or do we buy separate?

imagine95 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (3/31/2009 4:11 AM)

Well, here's part one of the NEW F-16 story. The Delta V-480 is a fan and motor combo, and yes it pops right in place where the old unit went. You do need to remove the tabs on the duct. Be advised to secure it or things might get a little weard. The build directions tell ya how to
R & R the fan and motor. The Delta system comes pre assembled. Read the directions carefully because there is some programming issues you need to pay attention to. At this time I have assembled the wings and horiz. elevators. I did test the new Delta using a 3s 2000 mah 20c pack and it held 300+ watts for about 3 sec. and dropped to 295 then 280 after about 6 sec. The spec says it will do about in the high 250s, so there you have it for know. I plan to have it ready to fly this weekend if'n we dont get too much snow here.

Rick_H -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (4/1/2009 3:51 AM)

Hello All

I have been away from this thread for a while now being one of the first to buy this jet. I was sent a replacement stock fan and motor unit for mine months ago, but have yet to install it. I know it is a POS motor so my F-16 is a hanger queen, It's good to hear that they may have a fix for it. My quesiton is are they going to offer free upgrades to us unwilling BATA Testers? I know I have not purchased single item from Horizon since the problems with them do to this plane. I can't seem to bring myself to trust them any more. I have informed all the local hobby shops around here of the issues with this plane and pointed them to this link, They are staying away from it as they don't need upset customers these day's.

Let's hope Horizon Steps up to the plate and makes this right.

Rick

imagine95 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (4/2/2009 3:42 AM)

I can understand your frustration. If you look back on this thread you will see the progress. Horizon is addressing the situation and is doing their best to fix it and stay within affordable means. I have just completed the build and installation of the Delta V-480 system. The test so far tells me it has improved. The only thing to find out is the weight issues. If the snow here subsides I will be attempting first flights this weekend. I am still deciding on the battery issue but it will come down to the testing I will do prior to flying using a digital meter and good old feel of thrust. Please try to stay open minded and stay in contact with Horizon. As far as free upgrades, that is not mine to answer. I am going to provide feedback on the system at altitude above even Denver Co., Colorado Springs is in the 7000 ft. range here. So we will see.....

bearcatf8 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (4/2/2009 3:52 AM)

I don't mind paying a little to get a better fan/motor.I just hope the flying is better ! I didn't get much of a chance to find out if it would be a good plane or not. I'm sure it will.

imagine95 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (4/2/2009 12:34 PM)

I also have decided to go with a stock setup pretty much as someone first buying one would do following the book including the Delta V-480 & a stronger esc / bec as the only mods at this time.....

1FST ZR1 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (4/5/2009 4:45 PM)

I have been following this thread since I got my F-16 on 3-25-09. I have flown it 3 times and decided it is the most underpowered pig I have flown in a long time, although it is very stable in the air it just does not have the power to enjoy it so I parked untill last night and used an Align 430L 4050kv motor on 4S. it seems to have a little more power and i will fly it here in a couple of hours and report back, I have also ordered the 480V upgrade and that will be here on Wed. and will do a compare of the 2 setups. to get the 430L motor to fit I just used an dremell with a sanding wheel and hogged out the plastic untill the motor slid in, I then drilled out the prop adapter to fit the larger motor shaft and that was it. it runs as smooth as it did before just a little more power, Iwill also get amp readings on 3s and 4s with this combo. Thanks for all the honest info about this pig.

imagine95 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (4/5/2009 6:26 PM)

Couldnt fly this weekend. Too much blowing snow and wind. I will try again next weekend. Hope your conversion works. I pondered the 4s but looking at weight vs power and flight time if I went to a smaller pack I am going to test with as substantial a 3s as I can. I got promising readings with a 2150 and 2250 20c. But the real test is in the air... I am tryig to keep this as close to stock as possible so as to do things as if a common flyer with an EDF for the first time. Most do not understand that jets need to develop thrust and do not have prop wash to rely on.

1FST ZR1 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (4/5/2009 11:53 PM)

Well I got off a couple of flighst and wow nice improvement over the stock setup, it came right off the ground in about 50 feet and had plenty off power to do some standard manuvers, before it felt if i were to turn that it was going to stall. With the 430l motor on 4s it pulls 29 amps on 3s it pulled 23 amps. flight time was alittle short of 5 minutes with no warning to a low batt. I will try my 480v unit on thursday and report back. Happy flying.

bearcatf8 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (4/6/2009 12:40 AM)

doesn't sound too promising to me to try it at this time !5 min, is not long flight time

imagine95 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (4/6/2009 4:44 AM)

I set my timer at 3 min until I get an understanding and readings on batt. consumption. I have been warned that flight time with the F-16 can be short. I haven gotten all the data on that yet. Short exciting runs are fun. Try to get off the ground and pracice trottle management, you'll get longer flights with a reserve to land. And use a good BEC with your ESC.

bearcatf8 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (4/6/2009 5:53 PM)

I guess a full blown Thunderbird routine is out of the qustion !
