such a shame horizon is blaming its customers for this issue. As all said above ^ I will also never buy a product again from horizon hobby unless its perfectly capable of flying under its own power for a long..... period of time. As a mater of fact I am so disappointed in there cooperation with me and seeing others that I probably wont be buying a product from them for a awhile. In the mean time I got sick of waiting around on this pile of crap so I went ahead and got a Super liner Fan Unit and dropped that in the plane with don's 4800kv motor. It all went in the plane with a superb fit. Test ran it on the table and it almost broke through my grip, should be plenty of power. I am going to try to go to the field to day and let it rip. I will post back with results

bob66 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (11/29/2008 4:38 AM)

when i get it installed i will let you know how it flys..[:D]

reiserrob -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (11/29/2008 5:50 AM)

where can i find don's mod. To get this straight there have been only two or three different setups tried out, hyperion, don's and an eflight 400. is that correct. can't i just grab a higher kv motor of the same dimensions, say a medusa research or something, they make nice motors, very efficient and high kv.

DNCrosby -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (11/29/2008 6:21 AM)

Is that 65m or 70m [:)] [image]http://image2-8.rcuniverse.com/e1/forum/upfiles/26538/Ca81158.jpg[/image]

bob66 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (11/29/2008 7:57 AM)

[image] i think it's a 65m but i still or lookihg for a esc for it [:D]

wedgewing -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (11/29/2008 12:57 PM)

don't laugh, it is probably what they will spec to get it to loop, and charge accordingly.

The "Horizons the limit" for their pricing

this was very bad timing for them especially following their 30% price increases.....real shame

reiserrob -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (11/29/2008 2:54 PM)

Does anyone know the motor output shaft diameter. I think I have a good setup figured out for this jet, Monday I'm going to try a Scorpion HK-2221-6 outrunner with the Scorpion 45amp ESC (the scorpion has a shaft diameter of 3.17mm and the can size is about 22mm. The motor turns close to 4400 kv. And it is listed as perfect for a DF. I'll have much more info once I get it up and running.

If you read my posts you will see that I also used the 35A Castle Creations Speed Controller and it lasted until the third flight. Good Luck with yours.

Now as for the DX7 configuration.

Wing Type: Flaperon ON
V-Tail OFF

D/R Switch Sel: COM ELEV

Travel Adjust: GEAR +0% -0%

Reversing SW: ELEV = Norm
Gear = REV

PROG.MIX6 (note use any mix, I choose 6)
ELEV->GEAR ON
RATE: +100%
+100%
SW:ON
OFFSET: 0

These settings will allow the Elevator trim to adjust both Elevators at the same time.

Rick

Hi Rick_H,

I setup my DX7 as listed above but the elevator trim doesn't trim both elevators. The right side elevator is the only one that moves. Could there be anything missing from the list? Is Mix6 the only mix you have? Is this dependant on a certain switch being toggled?

Thank you.

WildBlueYawnder -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (11/30/2008 10:58 PM)

Rick_H. Please disregard my previous query. I found the secret. I was using mix 1 and I found on the link below that only mix 5 and mix 6 send the trim settings to both servo channels.

DNCrosby -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (12/1/2008 6:18 AM)

Wow, that did it for me, I'd given up and bought a Y adapter with reverse for the elevators, now I can return it, but since I didn't have the new fan unit I hadn't installed it yet :D

Rick_H -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (12/1/2008 7:20 AM)

WildBlueYawnder

Thanks for the link. I am only using a single mix, I choose mix 6 because it was the first mix that came up while I was moving through the menu. I guess I got lucky.

Rick

So I got my HET Ducted Fan Unit, and I'm having some issues with the Might Mite... did you use an adaptor plate ? Because it looks like the fan holes are meant for a larger motor .... or did I get the wrong fan.. (they Only sell that one) Help ?

Weathers been too crappy to fly so I've spent some time finishing up videos. I sent the first one to YouTube today and I'm hooked. It was much easier than I thought it would be. Now I can't wait for the weather to break so I can get some F-16 videos.

Maiden flight of my E-Flite SuperAirliner

I'm sending mine back as per their instructions

Rick_H -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (12/6/2008 6:02 AM)

Has anyone gotten a replacement motor back from HH Support yet?

Rick

wtmcgehee -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (12/6/2008 2:44 PM)

I havn't. Last I heard HH said it will be shipped mid December. I would think I would be one of the first to recieve it since I reported mine blown in August. But I have stopped waiting and purchased the Hyperion motor that Sam77 purchased for his. If you havn't seen the difference in speed with this motor watch Sams video. http://www.youtube.com/user/navysam77

Rick_H -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (12/6/2008 5:48 PM)

How could you have reported it blown in August when it wasn't released until October? Anyway I send in the entire DF unit as the motor melted it around the mount holes.

Rick

wtmcgehee -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (12/6/2008 11:27 PM)

I have my dates off, I bought it around the time it came out and reported it after the 4th flight. A few days later.

Rick_H -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (12/7/2008 12:33 AM)

Well I guess I posted to soon today, My DF unit was delivered this afternoon. It has the same crap ah, I mean stock motor in it. I am going to setup my CC 35amp speed controller the way they recommended it in this thread. Then test the motor on the bench for at least 5 or 6 batteries watching amp draw and motor temp before I attempt to put it back in the plane. If it fails I will buy the motor recommended here and send this motor back to Horizon again. I wonder if this motor will work in a plank?

Rick

kable21 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (12/7/2008 5:31 AM)

Well a month and a half later [X(] i finally got this stinking flying last weekend with the dons wicked motor and super airliner fan it screams, not lightning fast but pretty darn quick. Have about five flight on the new set up and every thing seems to run cool. I flew for about 6 minutes on my pro lite 2600 pack with still plenty to spare but i wanted to be on the safe side. The only delema I was having was that I have the landing gear installed and takeing off and landing seemed to be a challenge because of the flimsy landing gear it kept tiping over and as soon as I would touch down it would tip over and scuff the wing and I ended up braking the end part off and that ended my day but I tried flexing the landing gear out a bit and ill see if that makes a difference if not im just gonna throw it. I don't have any video but maybe if i make it to the field tomorrow ill try to catch some.

wtmcgehee -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (12/9/2008 4:10 AM)

Just got my new motor in today. It is the same as Sam. The Hyperion Y22L-5000. It drops right into the ducted assembly and looks great. I will be test flying it on wednesday. Let you now how it works out.

Sam77 -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (12/9/2008 6:07 AM)

Good luck and great flying!

reiserrob -> RE: ***** New E Flite F16 400 DF (Thunderbird Scheme) ***** (12/9/2008 7:15 AM)

i have a stock motor to sell thats never been flown, If anyone is interested post a reply or PM me. I'll also sell a stock fan modded w/ a brand new Park 400 DF BL motor, flown for about thirty seconds before aircraft was destroyed, PM me if interested.
