Hi,

Is there anyone out there using X-Cell Gas for video or photo flying?

If so what did you change from the stock Gas X-Cell?

I have seen rumors that Miniature Aircraft recommends that you use aluminum upper chassie parts if you fly video? Is this true? If so, why?

What main blades do you use? What tail blades? If you use alternate tail blades, do you use a different tail rotor gear?

I have a standard non-modified G-23 in mine. I've just installed a Futaba GV-1 govenor using the magneto magnets of the G-23 to trigger the sensor. Seems to work great so far in hovering (no flight time yet as my transmitter is being repaired.

Hi Rich,

To do aerial work I found I needed to upgrade the tail with the newest tightest unit from X-Cell. I also installed a infrared flight stabilizer to keep the heli level at height. My camera mount was from rotary aerials. The system works great,no vibration and hands off steady at any height. I use 700mm carbon V-Blades. They are probably the best blades on the market.

Hi Walter,

Thanks for the info.

What did you do to the tail specifically? I see MA has a lot of parts available. In fact, I started to replace the rubber dampened tail axle with the new rigid one, but then decided against it until I did more research. I wasn't sure if there were more parts to change. So can you tell me specifically which parts you changed?

I talked with Ted at MA and he also recomends using aluminum upper frames and the aluminum head when carrying extra weight such as a camera. He says if you want the ultimate in stable flight to go to the new Tempest head. That's a lot of dough though!

I had thought about trying the FMA co-pilot (Infra-red stabilizer), is this the one you are using?

I see you are in Marlborough. I'm in Derry, NH. I'd love to see your setup sometime!

Rich

Hi Rich,

I use the Co-pilot for stabilization, it works great. The tail is the Pro tail from Ma. I also use the BH hanson G23 which is highly modified for more power. I use high octane gas with a synthetic oil mixture of 20%. One of the fun flys last year was the first aerial use of the heli, go to the link below for pictures. make darn sure you get the alumium head. The plastic stock one can break under a hevy load NOT GOOD, also get the aluminum upper frame upgrade. Extended boom is optional but recommended for added stability
