In the Fall 2008 issue of "High Flight", someone has inserted a very old ad for "R/C Report" showing ad rates that have not been in effect for over six years (not since October 2002)! The same ad also shows an address and phone numbers that have been invalid for over two years.

Here's what's happening already, and will be happening in the coming weeks and months!

1. We've already had irate subscribers calling our toll free number (at our expense, of course!) demanding to know why we’re offering a lower subscription rate to IMAA members than to our own subscribers. In other words, this error is already costing us time and money, and creating angry customers.

2. Modelers will be sending subscription orders to the old address, which will then be returned, and lead to rumors (on the internet, I'm sure!) that we’re out of business!

3. People will be calling the out-of-date (by over two years!) phone numbers, finding that the number is no longer working, and feed more fuel to the "out of business" rumors.

4. People will see the incorrect subscription rates, and send orders with $17.00 checks that we’ll have to return (at our expense, of course!) with an explanation of what happened and why we can’t honor their order. That's still more time and more costs, not to mention upsetting potential customers.

We apologize for the mix-up and we will try to solve any related problems caused by the erroneous and out-of-date advertisement that was published in “High Flight”.

Please direct all comments, suggestions, subscriptions and other correspondence directly to R/C REPORT Headquarters using any of the following methods:
via email to glbanks@rcreport.ws
by mail at R/C REPORT Magazine P.O. Box 1796 Madison, AL, 35758-1796 USA
by telephone at (256) 722-5697

All of us here at R/C REPORT Magazine Thank You for your understanding.

What's "high flight" doing about this? are they going to print a retraction in the next issue? are they going to print a correct ad in the next issue (for free)?

No, they said they weren't going to do anything right now, but offered to run the correct ad in their next issue 3 months from now. That was going to be way too late.

They would not put a note on their web site, they would not send their members a note, nothing.

Gordon mentioned the "L" word (lawyer) and they promptly said they didn't want to participate in the "reciprocal advertising" we had going for years.

We would print an IMAA ad every other issue and they would print am RC REPORT ad every issue.

That's all I know about this situation right now. I know Gordon is really upset and I can't blame him.

Considering the state the IMAA is in presently with Membership down to 6,323 and the organization running in the red, it may be a mute point to worry about them carrying RC Report adds much longer. Especially after they passed this one at the July meeting:

Motion by Ron Shonk, second by Tim Adams, to approve the plan to spend $15,000 annually to print color chapter reports to begin with the 2008 winter issue of High Flight. 8 districts voted yes; Dist. 2, 5 and 12 voted no. Dist.4 was absent at the time. Motion passed.

You have to wonder.

You have a good point there, Red.

That's another reason my club advertises their giant scale event with "Popular Giant Scale Rules Apply".

We do not sanction the event through IMAA anymore.

Nobody reads the ads in most magazines, but they're probably better than the rest of the content in High Flight anyway.

Dick,

Thanks for the info. I hope the bother doesn't cost a lot. I don't think High Flight subscribers expect much.

A member of my club recommended High Flight, and passed me a couple old issues. I read through them, and had a tough time getting past the misidentified pictures, misspellings and other errors. Never did join.

Good luck with this one.

I won't go to meets where "IMAA required", but will go to others. It's like unions....at one time useful, but outpriced now.

I have been a R/C Report suscriber for years, I don't understand why IMMA wouldn't fix this mistake but I know I won't be renewing my IMAA membership this year. Gorden has always been honest in his reporting and the magazine is underpriced now. how can someone expect a company to honor a rate for an ad that wasn't their mistake and was 6 years old.

IMAA has bigger problems to worry about. Membership keeps shrinking. High Flight draining what resources they have. You have to wonder how they can survive much longer.

Highflight can go pound sand as far as I'm concerned.

I was a faithful advertiser for years, paying for 1/3 page display ads. I tried to build a model airplane graphics business but Highflight put a stop to it.

They actually announced that they were "sponsoring" an "Official Graphics Company for the IMAA and Highflight."

They did a two page spread promoting this guy.

Why doesn't Highflight do that with a specific engine brand, or retract suppliers or any other product for that matter?

After they announced this "Official" graphics guy, my business fell off totally. I no longer had a business.

Thank you Highflight and all you decision making individuals.

I'm designing a new model airplane, it's called the "Back stabber."

BTW. What I just said is the absolute truth, except for the model.

Charles

From the front page of the IMAA website:

"We sincerely regret that the Advertisement for RC Report in the Fall, 2008 Issue of Highflight was not correct
