ive recently finished my hangar 9 ultra stick 40 and i installed the quad flap option ive never flown with flaps before and i would like to fly without the flaps for awhile my question is can i tape the flaps to the ailerons for a few flights until i get used to the plane and how it flys and if i can is there a easier or better way to do this?

I hooked the flaps to the retract switch, so when I want flaps, I can have them instantly.

You have to mix the flaps with the elevator. When you give flaps, the plane goes up, very
quickly and violently....sometimes dangerously if you have your speed up. The "down elevator"
mix offsets this violent climb. Use about 10 degrees down mix to start, and fine tune
as necessary.

just leave the flaps at neutral and fly normally. Taping them to the ailerons will give you a false rate of response not to mention several other unpleasant possiblilites.

I have the same set up. I have the flaps on the flap switch and the ailerons set up for crow on the aux switch. So, i can fly with normal ailerons, flaps or ailerons up and flaps down. Will maintain flight at about 5mph and vertical landings are a blast!!

2 part question on setting up my stik, I am thinking about adding flaps to my older kit, what size servos (torque wise) would I need for the flaps, I was thinking about using mini or micros servos, but have been reading some bad stuff about micros in glow planes not holding up. Your thoughts?

Thanks

Jon

What size is the plane? On a 40 to 60 size I'd stick with standard servos. I woudn't use mini's.

I am currently building the same plane and spoke with the techs at Hanger 9 about this same concern. They suggested using a "Y" connector wire to make the each side of the quad flaps perform like the single surface, i.e. like a normal control surface. According to the tech, anything less might compromise the function of the control surfaces.

I am sorry, I forgot to answer your question, it is a 40 size stik, I am pretty sure that I am going to use standard Futaba servos
