I'm wondering if a brushless Rancho conversion is possible but not sure about gearing and space I could get more space with these anyone have any ideas.

another thing came to my mind: you can use bigger pinion.
4S lipo should be fine... 2000KV X 16.8V = 35.000 RPM

5S is not advised because of the extreme RPM you'll get. You can destroy the motor because of the unnecessary RPM. But people use it and they say its too fast, no need to be soo fast... also as i know 8xl has 40.000 RPM max revolution limit. so 35.000 seems to be the safe revo speed.
with 35.000 rpm you'll see that your rig is wild...
theres not much difference between 13 and 14 teeth pinions(for me) so you should go with the bigger pinion(14t).
also you may order and try a 16T pinion for testing heat and speed.
also can you can put a heat sink and fan so you can drop the heat(do it after starting to use the motor.)
you can put on a water jacket to the motor.( i dont know where you can find the pump)

another note: my truck is 41.000 RPM Brushless and i can never put on full throttle, so dont worry about more RPM... 35.000 will be too much also...

8xl dont ask for much amp so you can use any fine lipo over 4500mah with 20-25C discharge rating. i use 4500Mah 20C Broadamp and they go good.
depending on your budget you shall get the highest C rating you can=25C and highest amp battery you can afford.

More technical info:

4500mah X 20C = 90 Amper/hour
4500mah X 25C = 112,5 Amp/hour
5000mah X 20C = 100 Ah
5000mah X 25C = 125 Ah

8XL will use around 20-25 Ah avarage and you'll get about 20 minutes of runtime. if you use small pinion your runtime will be more, if you use big pinion your runtime will decrease but speed will be much more.
also at acceleration your motor will draw high amp like 70-80 ampers.
The higher C rating and higher mah value and the better battery quality will mean longer runtime, longer lifespan of battery.
