Hi guys, fairly new to the truggy scene. Here's my situation... I have a 8T-RTR and an HPI Firestorm. Every weekend me & the wife go to random spots for a few hours and run the trucks. She has decent car control and is getting better everytime...BUT she only likes driving the 8T because of 4wd handling and the larger scale. I was going to buy her a Savage XL (to beat up on) but she doesn't want it after I told her that it would have a tendency to roll over with her aggressive driving style. I think she'd have a lot of fun at the track during open practice days so I came up with the bright idea of getting her a truggy. With so much hype and the countless threads comparing truggy A vs. truggy B, I'm still undecided on which RTR to get her. Here is what I've narrowed down to:

On the "less expensive" end:
Team VTX
Thunder Tiger ST1

OR

Losi Muggy
OFNA Jammin' X1-CRT
OFNA Hyper ST

I'm even considering just getting another 8T-RTR but of course she'd need another body painted fuscia pink and her own JConcepts Rulux wheels to differentiate the two! lol I've already thought of this as an excuse to buy a "pro" level kit and give her my 8T, but it's not in the budget right now. What are you guys' thoughts/suggestions? THANKS for any replies!

Why not just buy her a 8T that way you can use the same parts on each?

This is a hell of a truggy. Contact the distributer via email. Tell him i sent you. You might get a better deal

I like my CRT, I've cartwheeled a good number of times, and I've hit a few things with it and I've never broken anything on it, but the CRT rtr has a junk engine (force engines) and the ofna rtr radios and servos aren't that good either.

Losi is the only one that has decent rtr radio gear and engines.

I'd get another 8T because of the reasons said above (you can share parts and so on) and that way you could use the same starter box. (if you have one)

Amain has a special on the 8T RTR http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/cPath/1_44_50/products_id/13687

Thanks for the replies guys...after some serious thought (and thinking to myself "what were you thinking?!), I've decided to go the "least expensive" route...The $299 deal that Amain is running for the Thunder Tiger can't be beat. Plus the money I save can be dumped into my OWN truggy!

She'll know if you cheaped out on her,

Remember the ST-1 is a pullstart, and initial quality is not the same as the 8ight, not that the ST-1 is a bad truck, but the electronics and and motor are not on par to the 8ight,

TTR ST-1 RTR is the way to go. Electronics aren't great but that's a general rule w/ RTR's. You do get a very decent motor and pipe and a very durable truck. Saxton steering mod is a must and cheap. I checked out AMain and they are $299, they had been at $249, might wanna see if you can get it for that....

I just couldn't justify the extra $300 to get her an 8ight...afterall, to her it's still just a TOY. I figure I can use the money saved to buy a better radio for myself and transfer the Spektrum 2.0 to the ST1. She'll be stoked just to have her own ride!

Until she crashes it cos of cheap radio glitching and asks you why you don't have that problem. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when you try to explain to her why your truck has a 2.4Ghz radio and hers has an AM 27mhz. lol.

Get her an 8T or you'll regret it the rest of your days. Imagine her face when you tell her that you love her sooooo much, you figured she deserved to have an equal toy to you. You win in every way, except your $300 lighter. You can obviously afford it if you have a wife.

I got my wife a X1 crt because I already all the parts I would ever need. Now that I have a X2(that she drove once) she wants one, there's no way I'm dropping another $600 for her to have one, maybe she'll buy one someday. Just think of it this way, whose going to be fixing it and do you want to invest in two different brands?

Well...the order for the St1 has been placed. We just gutted & remodeled the kitchen so a reality check kicked in and apparently a new ss dishwasher is more important (at least to her it is, haha) Maintaining/working on these things is half the fun so I don't mind having another ride to play with...so much cheaper and less time consuming than trying to race the real thing! I figure she can beat up on the ST1 for a year and if she really, really gets into it, we'll get whatever the new hot ticket item is at the time since this thing will be considered a dinosaur in just a few months, right?! (meant that in a sarcastic tone...seems like soooo many new models being released left & right) Thanks for all your input...the info available on this forum is awesome

why is everyone beating up on the st1. its a great truck for an rtr. the servos are fine but the motor is a bit slow compared to the 8t. i race mine against an 8t at my local track [nothing crazy competitive] but i can keep up with the 8t without the steering mod or oil in the diffs[assuming i don't crash]. anyways i hope your wife likes the truck.
