Simply, no.

NiMh Batteries all heat up at the end of a discharge cycle. The longer you run the hotter they get. A slightly smaller prop might help a little. A full Lipo set up will run reasonably the same price as a good NiMh battery pack like the Team Orion 3800 VHO. I was first skeptical of lipos and the price for them. But, after a year of experience with them, would not ever consider a NiMh for anything ever again. Ever. My hyperion 6061i charger is a breeze to use and has been faithful for the last year of racing. The original Lipo's I purchased last year are still as strong and as long running as the day I bought them. That is after 1 year of racing at least once a week, usually twice, under extreme conditions. I easily run 3 times longer as my friend who uses the exact same set up as me but with an expensive NiMh battery pack. I got so sick of him complaining I went out and bought him a lipo so I could have my practice buddy back. I love my Lipos! Go buy yourself a good lipo and run it hard for the next year, or three, or five.

Stingcheese is right....but this sounds like it has more to do with amperage loads than battery chemistry or capacity. A smaller prop would help yes...but only if it help the prop unload a bit...therefore drawing less amps. I recently ran into this on my VXL brushless E-Maxx while running A123 packs. Running a single 3s1p pack resulted in battery temps that exceeded 130 degrees. I wired up a second pack, a wiring harness which basically turns it into a 3s2p pack. By running them in parallel, it allows the packs to deliver more amperage that the brushless setup demanded and the cells barely run warm to the touch any more...start to finish.

So...what can you do to solve your problem,

#1 get a gauge that will allow you to get max amperage readings.

#2 You could try wiring 2 of your NIMH packs in parallel to see what it does to your temps..but I think it will lower them.

#3 Purchase a lipo or A123 setup...just be sure to get 20C to 25C packs so that they can provide the amperage needed.

But it is imperative to get a handle on how many amps your system demands....that is the most important thing here.

If the battery is heating up due to demand then adding capacity will lower the heat. It would really depend on the temps, get a temp gun and measure the temps every 2 minutes and see when it gets hot. If it heats up quickly then getting a higher capacity battery will help.
