I donno what happened, I wasnt there. I got home and my roomate tells me it acted wheird when he turned it on, some kinda servo/motor spazim. He unplugged it and put it back where he got it, lol.

Anyway, I plug in the freshly charged batt, turn on the remote, push the ez button, it lights up, and starts blinking red. No problem, LVC in on and cuz Im running a 6c nimh I want it off. So I turn the LVC off, power it back up and dang, the steering servo is working fine, but the motor wont go... I'm glad I have a couple of these systems lying around. I pluged the motor into my new VXL esc and it works fine, great. Then I did the new motor with the "dead" VXL and nuthin, no power to the motor... The only life to the motor is the beep that it makes when you switch between LVC on and off.

I bought it used, and I know I cant expect much. However, can I not still try and get an RMA using the existing warrenty from the original owner since its still less then a year old? The failure is not my/his/our fault, cant be. Its not over geared and I only have two 6c nimh batteries, one 4200mah and the other is 1900mah... (The sticker in the esc is still white )

I just got the bandit 5 days ago, and I really dont want to hafta fork out the 45 bones to get it fixed, and on top of that, they will probably want the WHOLE CAR it came in! Which aint happening since its already got my new VXL system in it and Im using it.

OR, just get anuther mamba, lol. Are the sidewinder systems comparable to the vxl systems? Better/worse?

Whaddaya think?

weigh the options - 45 for a new esc is not bad, you could try to send it in without the money, worst case scenario - they ask for $45. Still cheaper than a mamba or even the sidewinder. By the way, I have a couple sidewinder/vxl motor combos - very nice.

Have you tried re-calibrating it?

Take your motor apart and inspect it. Maybe a wire is frayed, lose connection, etc. I'm pretty sure Traxxas doesn't warranty motors, only the ESC's.

The motor tubes may have come loose in the ESC, thats what happened to me. I sold the broken system and replaced it with a mamba max and a trinity brushless motor. If you are wanting to find the cheapest way send it to traxxas and get it fixed, you can try and fix it yourself, but that is too risky. A sidewinder system would probably be the best the replacement. I have a mamba max system in my rustler and it fits fine I secure it with double sided tape and maybe will zip tie it in.

If the motor was the problem, then why did it work with the new esc and the old esc not work with the new motor?

Yes, I tryed... But the darn button sticks and makes it hard to do the calibration.. Im sure I did it a couple times, but its hard to tell when it still wont drive the motor. However, it does respond to my inputs, meaning the red light reacts to pulling the throttle trigger.

Motor is fine, I tested that.

Now, even if I do mess with re-soldering the motor posts, I will still only be charged the maximum of $45 for the repair if it still doesnt work, right?

That is a good question for Traxxas support, repairing it yourself may void any warranties

Yes, if you try and mess around with the ESC, by trying to fix it yourself I am pretty sure you void the warranty. I bet its a loose connection in the ESC.

i tried to soder my motor plug back onto the board, but couldnt. i mailed it to traxxas with only a piece of paper with my name/address/email. 14 days later i had a refurbished unit on my doorstep. i didnt pay anything except the shipping to traxxas, all of $5. they will repair the older version vxl esc's for free cause they know they messed up with the soder they used. the new version vxl esc's have wires coming out ot the esc, like the sidewinder esc.
just send it in, and traxxas will take care of you!

Thanks for the info bud! I did take it appart, and it did have 2 loose posts, I re-soldered them without a problem, but it still dont go... Im sure the cold solder is the culpret, Ive had to fix a lot of electronic devices, from RC's to computers because of bad solder. I figure the fet's have lost a connection somewhere, but there too damn small to work on!

Dont worry bout it, djangomangalam, its only common sense that if you take appart anything thats still under warrenty that it will void it, but I dont think it has one since I bought it very used, lol.

Thanks all for your help, off to the post office I go!

Cheers.

Oh, since we are talking bout sending stuff back for repair, I gotta mamba max esc that had its 3 wire signal harnass ripped off one day while out bashing. Since then I removed a capasitor to fix another mamba that got into a scrap with an e-savy, lol. This esc was hooked up wrong, and got burnt. I know that castle will repair burnt esc's, but anyone think they will re-build this one that I butchered? Its still "mostly" there, hehe.

Chankx.
