The HS-81's are a perfectly snug fit. Getting mine together tonight. This plane is just sexy.

I just ordered one and they were backordered on the speed control that they reccommend so I did not get the motor yet either. I got the hs 81's and extensions and all the fixings. What is a good speed control that I could use with that motor or does anyone reccommend any other setup??? I have a Dx7 what reciever are you guys running. Is a 6100 enough??? I also got 2 Flight power 4s 2170 25c packs I can't wait!!!!

A Castle Creations SC is my choice, mainly for the ease of programing it on the computer. (need the cord and software too). The 42-50 motor they suggest should be concidered a first choice. GP motors have their drawbacks (mainly whiney noises in flight, a bit weak where the can mounts to the shaft) but they are probably only bettered by Hacker and Axi. The good side of GP Reactor motors is, cheap, excelent power to weight, reduced shaft end size allows a smaller prop adapter for evan more weight savings, simple bearing removal and replacement, a ready supply of spare parts like only Tower can do.
I use 26ga. telephone wire and extand my leads rather than heavy extension wire. Buy it at radio Shack.
Your Dx7 and 6100 will work fine. You should be able to do a split elevator with it. Then you want a pair of these http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNCV9&P=0

On the sixth flight of a brand new beautiful SebArt Sukhoi 30e the HS 65 died on the elevator. Wiped out the front of the cowl and motor mount but the wings and from where the cowl mounts back the fuse is fine. So I ordered another plane cause it came with a new cowl. Now the new Sukhoi has two elevator servos because:
A plane can fly pretty good with one aileron servo.
Flys OK without a rudder servo.
But don't fly for #$@! if there's only one elevator servo and it quits

Depending on your budget the Phoenix has quite a few more programing options. But the Thunderbird will work just as good and you can't hardly tell the difference. So just buy according to your cash available. You will need the 45 amp SC if you get the Phoenix and get the Castle link programing kit. Or the Thunderbird 54, they are simple to program so don't really need the kit but it's still easier than doing programing by sound.

The Thunderbird 54 is not rated for use with a 4s lipo. Just a heads up.
