This plane was given to my Dad several years ago from one of his RC mentors. I flew it a few times as a kid and he had an absolute blast with it. It was crashed a few years ago and broke in half behind the wing. I have put the fuse back together and am working on recovering it.

It had trike gear but I removed the nose gear and moved the main gear mount forward. I'm making it a taildragger because our grass field isn't very kind to nose wheels.

The older gentleman we got this plane from, Don, also gave us a Kiwi. The plane had "Lancer" decals on it. My Dad thinks Don had said it was a SIG kit like the Kiwi.

I know it resembles Carl Goldberg's Falcon but the wing dihedral is not there and that canopy is way different.

Any help with this planes nomenclature and manufacturer would be greatly appreciated.

-Phil

Might be a Sterling Fledgling?

I agree, it looks like a bashed Fledgling. The original has tricycle gear. I can't make out the airfoil, but if it's semisymetrical, I'd go for the fledgling.

Being an avid Sr. Falcon fan, I can definitely say that it isn't any version of the Goldberg Falcon. The first absolute give-away is the fact that your plane has solid vertical & horizontal stabilizers, the Falcon's is built-up. My vote also goes to the Fledgling, which was pretty much of the same period and purpose (advanced trainer).

There's a pretty good (but a bit fuzzy) video of a Fledgling in action on You-tube at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3fmGWwSe00

Modified Goldberg Falcon. I did not look at the WS, Falcon 56 or Sr. Falcon.

I found a picture of a Tauri. I agree that it is very similar. The contour on top of the wing and the landing gear are identical to this plane I have. The tail looks somewhat different though. The rudder on mine extends below the elevator. The wing tips are different as well but these could be building variences.

I have a friend who works at SIG researching my plane. He is trying to see if it is something they made years ago.

Here is the Tauri picture I found:

I believe we have found a winner....

or atleast the closest resemblance.

Someone on another forum suggested it was a Greatplanes "GLA" (Great Little Airplane)

I think I responded to this in another place, but might as well repeat. I'm old enough to have the right. It's a Global Hobbies QB-40. The flat sided canopy is the give-away. The one I have was built with a tricycle gear, and the pans and old Hobby Shack adds show the trike gear, so this one apparently was converted at some time in the past.

yeah this is the same plane from the other forum.

Thanks for the input Tony.

I converted it to a taildragger. Tri-gear don't work to well on our field. I prefer the tailwheel anyway.

I'm going to call Hobby People tomorrow and see if they can help me out.

I called Hobby People. They did have an entry in their computers for the plane but showed no inventory for any kits or parts. The nice lady on the phone went and checked the wharehouse to be sure and came back with nothing. They don't even have any plans. So I guess I will have to find a similar canopy to make work, find one that someone is willing to part with, or make my own...

Nice work on the restoration,
From the first pic's you posted of the canopy, it looks like the forward part of a sig kougar canopy may be very close.

Thanks for the tip Dan.

That does look like a close match.
