Hello everyone...........Just a quick question, my plane is covered with Sig Koverall and dope with excellent results. To get a perfect match for the cowl/landing gear what primer/base coat would I need to use if I wanted to also use buytrate dope for the final finish. My metal gear is 7/32 bent music wire. I have heard that dope paint may be difficult to apply on fiberglass/metal parts. Any input/advice would greatly be appreciated.

Regards

I have used an automotive Dupli-Color primer from Pep Boys, with good results. It comes in two flavors. Heavy bodied sandable (that I would use on the fiberglass), and a lighter bodied that I would use on the gear.

I use grey "Motomaster Scratch Filler & Primer" primer from Canadian Tire with great success for applying dope over fiberglass and metal. After applying I wet sand it with 600 grit paper, and it gives a really good base.

An automotive 2K etch primer will work on all dopes and form a perfect base for further treatment. If in doubt, ask the desk guy if it sticks to reflow laquer.

I like to use Dupont 30S automotive primer, it sticks to just about everything and butyrate will go over it nicely!

we live in different worlds, and the Dupont product is not known to me. I have a hunch though that it is very much like the primer I used in my doped scale project.
