Hi Guys: Several weeks ago someone posted a link to a company that sells small industrial electric pumps. They are I believe they are the explosion proof ones with the fins on the motor case. Does anyone remember the company name? I thought that I captured in on my favorites list but didn't...must be getting old I guess.

Very nice looking pump but there is a dizzying number of choices. Do you have a favorite?

Bill

Are y'all using these for filling the tank before a flight, or something else? They seem a bit pricey just for use on the ground. I guess if you've got the cash though, why not right? lol

I made my fuell can set using that pump. Copied one I saw in the marketplace. Have just a little over $100 in it and everybody that found out I made it wants one. Bought the switch covers, metal bulkhead fittings to totally seal it, the electrical box and switches from Lowes, and 2 A123 batteries were freebees. I used the pump that is the 3th one down on the drop down window, #001-120003. If it's good enough for Jersey Modeler, it's good enough for me!

It may seem like a lot of money but after awhile you really get tired of fueling and defueling a 32 oz tank with a hand crank pump. So to some it's money well spent.

wjvail,

I think when I called for assistance with choosing the right model number, I was told to order the first one on the list.
If I were going to order one, I would certainly call to see which one to purchase.
I am still cranking.

Greg

I bought this one http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDJR7&P=7 and so far, about 5 gallons through it, it's working "okay", and that's on a 9.6 v 1100mah NiMh batt. It "needs" 12v to be happy, and am converting my jug to a 4SA123 using B&D VPX cells soon. Even at the 9.6v, it beats hell out of cranking on ANY manual pump.

You have to add switch, etc., but worth doing.

Thanks to OldRookie I called Greylor and they recommend #00-12-0000. They said that they sells hundreds of them for our gas and kerosene use. BTW Bob I used that Hitec servo arm on the Walbro carb and it works like a charm. Thanks to everyone.

When I bought mine I used the one recommended by one of the jet guys because it seems to be standard practice to "build your own". They also warned about using it on 12v because it would put out too much pressure for your lines and possibly tanks. Found the thread somewhere around here using the search function. Mine works just fine off a 2S A123 battery set up, just recharge every 5 gallons (about 15 minutes). If you use 2 switches (to have forward and reverse flow) please make sure to put an inline fuse at the + output of your battery. This will keep you from "letting the smoke out" if you accidently close both circuits at the same time. Also, put a cover over the rear of the motor because it is vented right there at the brushes.

There are probably many ways to do this but just remember to play it safe so that you do not have an accident.

You can also use a DPDT, center "off" Switch (Radio Shack) to simplify things. Works great.

If you want a guard to prevent that switch from coming on accidently, you will have to make it. The only one I found commercially available with one was a mil-spec switch and it was big bucks.

That is certainly true! I have never even heard of or seen a center of DPDT with a guard. Mine is setup in such a fashion that it would be difficult and obvious for me to bump it into "ON"; but having said that, a switch with a guard is a good idea. No doubt about it.

My crude portable potential Molotov is attached.
It is just one way to setup this type of system.
