Maybe Bad Compression? - 8/27/2008 8:55:46 PM

Status: offline 		I'm having another problem with my nitro evader, early I thought maybe it was just the needles but now i'm not sure. I've replaced the piston and sleeve about 2 weeks ago and now i'm having the same signs.

It's hard to start....and is eating up my c batteries like crazy. When I put a fresh battery in the starter it starts when I give it about half throttle and as long as I keep it going it want shut off but once I let completely off the throttle it dies. I checked my flywheel and its not super easy to spin but its not where it should be I believe. I can spin it no problem with my finger.

Seems like pistons go bad a lot in the dtx 18. I run it on a flat dirt track and I can never get it full throttle on the track so idk why it messes up like this. I have a nice air filter, with a pre filter on it as well and I keep it oiled so its not dirt in the engine.


Any suggestions are highly appreciated

Status: offline 		What fuel, and plug temp are you using?

you might want to look for a OS 18 CV for it. Used you can get them fairly cheap, and new I think they're like $109.95 or something.

Status: offline 		I don't think temp has anything to do with it while trying to get it started and keeping it running for a few seconds. I'm pretty sure I never over heat it...I run about 2 tanks at a time and then let it cool, but I never give it full throttle while riding on my track either so the temps doesn't get super high I'm sure



I may look into getting another engine, I will do some research on some engines and make sure that I get the best deal

Status: offline 		I'm using 16% fuel....started off with 15% so I haven't backed down on my fuels.


The plug I am using is black....not sure what temp it is though. I asked for some plugs at the hobby store and told them my engine type and thats what they gave me, so it's probably right

like I said they, there isn't any force needed to turn the flywheel

Status: offline 		Yeah, so what I think I am going to do is replace basically everything or get a new engine.

I don't mind the dtx but then again, I think I can get better rather then repairing this one every two weeks

I just noticed something, there is a air leak in between the heat sink and the sleeve because when I turn the fly wheel bubbles form underneath the heat sink, could that cause compression lost?

Status: offline 		Yeah, I have the aluminum gasket in between both, I got the air leak to stop, it seems like it has compression now though, hopefully it does. I'm going to take it down the road to my friends house and he is going to tweeter with it some

Sounds like a bad glow plug.

Status: offline 		It really good be a bad glow plug because I haven't changed that thing in...........forever. I probably ran 15 tanks on the same plug

Status: offline 		firstly, the DTX is a ABN sleeve, aka the sleeve coating is nickel which is a very soft material compared to chrome (what the majority of motors are coated in these days) The DTX will only last about 3 to 4 gallons (if treated right) Before the nickel wears away and your left with bare brass.

As for plugs, the motor is a OS made motor, so i wouldnt go runnin standard plugs in it, you will need OS plugs as they are shorter in there reach, long plugs tend to make the motor pre detonate and run like c@#p.

Dont bother ith the DTX, its a good motor to begin with, has good power, but dosnt last long and isnt worth rebuilding, just get a OS18CVRX, its the best motor for the Evader and a awesome price. U will be amazed at the power compared to the DTX
