Hi guys.

I want to put a 2 speed pinion gear on a Novak 3.5 velocity motor. I want to put it in my mugen mtx-3. I want to convert it to electric.

I know, I know there are many great on road 1/10 scale cars (I've already got one!) but I just wanna waste some money!

Thanks!

Raf

you don't need 2 speed with a brushless motor . a brushless has a almost instance power ban

Brushless motors put out tons of power. That's true, my electric cars are way faster. I know I don't need a 2 speed tranny. I just want one!

Anyone know where I can get such a pinion gear?

Raf

You need to do this. Instead of a 2-speed pinion or clutch - you want a dual-serial battery with a switch off of channel 3 so you can "engage" warp drive by adding in another cell or two in serial mode once you get up to a good speed.

Say a 2S Lipo pushing 7.4V to get you up to say 50mph. Then hit button for channel 3 which would engage another battery making it a 3S or even 4S in serial to crank up the voltage. The brushless power will increase, it will spin the motor faster and you now have a 2 speed. Remember - Brushless run in a kV mode. If it is a 5500kv motor - at 7.4V it will spin at X-rpm and at 14.8V it will go even faster. I wonder if there will be a trail of sparks when it adds-in the second battery?

Like on old PCs - this would be called the "Turbo Switch". I do want to see video when it's done.

I think you could pretty easily make an adapter to place the original clutch bell from the car onto your motor. Better yet, get a clutch bell that has interchangeable pinion gears, like an HPI, and then take a pinion gear for an electric motor. Buy a pinion with a tooth count that makes it fit almost perfectly inside the clutch bell, then balance and epoxy it in and that will allow you to mount it on the electric motor.
Thats the cheapest way I can think of.
