Exhaust pipes in "real" modern boats have one way valves (rubber flaps) at the ends of them. They do still take on water when the boat sits but these prevent backwash on decelleration. Most are PVC exhaust tubes so are imprevious to rust. Also, real boat engines are set up at least a foot off the water (even on the comp. ski boats) so there is no problem there with water going into the engine. The only way I can think of doing this in rc is to still have backwash flaps and to not have a tuned pipe and have a trap like under the kitchen sink to keep water out of your engine. Yes it can be done, but not with tuned pipe. i'd rather have the tuned pipe.
