Did you round off the rim of the square?

Was there a steel collar around that area? I've never seen this happen. Maybe the wheel nuts became loose?

Yeah, it still has the steel collar, I was just wondering if hexes are better than why does fg use squares?

I don't remember if the nut came loose, I actually think that there was some friction and the heat melted it, I don't really remember.

I was just wondering if you were going to build a car ground up would you go with hexes?

The square has been around on Europe's buggies for over 18 years. I'm sure if there was a problem they would have found it buy now.

It would stand to reason that the more sides to a polygon (pentagon, hexagon, octagon, etc...) the closer it gets to actually being round and the shallower the flats are to the points. So, a square would be much less prone (about 33 percent) to stripping than a hexagon. The only reason hexes are commonly used for fastening devices is because you have less of a turn to make before getting to the next set of flats which greatly helps when working in confined areas. All my 1/5 use square drive (as all others with the exception of HPI do) and I have yet to strip a single one. Make sure the wheel nuts are always tight and if they are nylon locking replace them as soon as the nylon starts wearing out.
