i bought a bunch of AA NIMH Energizer recharbeable, 2500mah batteries for my electric plane so i could custom make battery packs. But after my plane went out of range and just kept on going out of the ocean, i was at the beach, i have nothing left but a RC car to put the batteries in. It was a cheap plane though. The car is a tamiya Hotshot from around 20 years ago, i replaced all the electronics, but i want to use the 18 AA batteries to power it. I figured out the car draws a max. of 90 amps, the max. limit for my esc, and it needs 7.2volt 90 amps divided by 3 parallel series of batteries would be 30amps per series. 30 amps divided by 2.5 amps (batteries rating) would be 12C. THat all right for NIMH AA batteries?

I do have the stuff to charge all them at the same time.

Um no. AA batteries cannot supply anywhere near that kind of C. Think of a battery like a man made dam lake. AA is a pretty big lake with a pretty small hole letting the water out. What you need is a big or small lake with a BIG hole letting the water out fast. Those AA are not going to supply decent current.

I dont get it, why don't you just get a cheap battery? You can get a 6 cell nimh Trinity pack for $15-20 around 2500mah.

Am I totally wrong here people?

my purpose of combining these batteries is to 7.5 Amp Hours of power at 7.2volts. Your reccomendation to equaal that would be somehwere like 45-60$. got any idea wat the max 'c' is for AA batteries?

save those AA batts for transmitter and receiver packs. what i remember about the Tamiya cars is that they came with brushed 480 and 540 motors plus a non electronic speed control unit that worked off a servo. the stock battery packs only lasted about 5 or so minutes before a re-charge was needed. grab yourself a lipo battery pack from EBAY plus a better ESC.

Good advice. Save those AA's for max .2C use.

btw, i took out that non-electric speed control as the stock homemade looking BEC had burned up by my friends grandfather about 20 years ago. Replaced that crappy speed control and servo with a ESC w/ a BEc built in, a new tamiya TX motor, and replaced the servos with newer better servos. (only thing is these servos r 60 degrees, the old s114 were 180 degrees, caused some steering problems.) but my old batteries r useless. oh for reference or whatever, my new motor draws 160 amps max., my speed control supplies 90 amps max. (at least, thats wat the ESC cuts off at)

LMAO. Pb. LEAD ACID. You know, car, boat, and all around backup power supply.

Why don't you hear about LiOn? Because when you get over a certain scale it doesn't do the job/supply enough C. They are powerful for small scale tho'. Replace 4-6 AAA NiMh with 2-4 LiOn AA. It is good for MiniZ and Radlines and other 1/24-1/32 scale. Check out ATOMIC MODS Lion MiniZ upgrade for a lesson about LiOn.

NiCad is ANCIENT TECH that, for RC purposes should not be considered at all. NiMh are far superior.

Honestly why don't you hear about LiOn? Because a little company called A123 came around and that is the way to go if you want to try that direction.

i thought nicad were far superior over nimh in heat/abuse tolerance, and thought they had better c rating? i know that nimh r better in weight and capacity though.
