Status: offline 		Maybe this method is common among profile guys. It was new to me though and I wanted to share. I stoled this idea from Spacey. I like it so well I did both my Fusions. One with the wire horizontal the other verticle. It just worked out the best that way. It also cured the foaming issue I was having on the 67". Also note it's a good idea to put a little silicone in the holes for the zip ties. The fuel will get in there and make a mess. The wire I used is just old pushrods.

i do mine with three short pieces.

bend a small hook, drill hole, insert wire, bend an L on other end. do that two more times and bam ,fuel tank mounts done.

i put one above the tank and two below, looks like a triangle.

the tie straps work if you dont pull em down too tight, but eventually they rot and break, and more than likely people have rubber bands handy than tie straps.

Status: offline 		Here's an idea that I came up with. I got tired of the rubber bands look so I took a small bungie that I had and adapted it to fit on the hook ends and it holds the tank on quite well and looks clean. The bungie is only about 3/16" dia or so. Works great.

Status: offline 		I was doing this when I started flying slow combat,used the sullivan ss6 tanks to get 5 minutes of flight time as points were added for flying time if you were not killed.won a few matches on the flying time as others were using the perfect wedge tank back in those days.1970

I went with zip ties on my Fusion after seeing the original pics of yours!

I have used the rubber bands but don't like how they look. Also, you have to remember to change them every now and then because they get dry and brittle.

Status: offline 		Dave, that's the way the original instructions in the OMP kits showed how to do the tanks. Use an old piece of 2-56 pushrod and bend so it sticks through the left side. Cut to length and bend hooks to hold the rubber bands. I'm sure this technique has been donw for decades. Spacey builds a lot of OMP planes and he follows instructions very well! Flys really well too! haha. The only drawback is replacing the rubber bands occasionally though.

Status: offline 		Welll..uhmmm...see...technically you are all wrong. Bwhahaha. I use little brass self tapping hooks on all my kit profiles, so there's nothing sticking out the opposite end of the fuselage. Been doing that since the first profile I built (It was a Fazer btw.) back in 1995. Now the ARF's have been a different story, there I did the wire bending thing yes after I realised the cable ties suck downright.

Status: offline 		LOL. I figured you had a cooler way to do it Spacey. I was basing my assessment on the pics Dave posted. Looks the same as the pics in the original OMP manuals. Anyway I was thinking last night why not use some fuel tubing instead of rubber bands to hold the tanks on. Still use the hooks like above but use fuel tubing and zip tie the ends together to hold. I'm gonna try this and post some pics.

Status: offline 		I've been contemplating alternatives myself Mike. The profiles are completely maintanance free except for the silly rubber bands that needs to replaced all too often. Would be nice to come up with a "permanent" fix for this one.

Status: offline 		I just tried my idea of using small fuel tubing (1/2A size) instead of rubber bands and it works awesome. I'll take a picture tonight and post it. But basically I used the same four holes in the fuselage used for the stock zip tie method but inserted the small size zip ties through each hole from the right side. It is hard to describe but you need to go ahead and insert the male end of the zip tie into the female end and pull it so you have about an inch of loop. Then pinch the loop end and insert into the right side of each hole. Do this four times. Then put the tank in place and run the fuel tubing through each of the zip tie loops and pull tight so the tubing is pinched off and stays in place.
