Hi All,

After 18 mos, was on the verge of jacking it all in when opportunity came to go to Calgary today. So took my little beast to PM Hobbycraft in the hope that they could tune her up and get me airborne. The "tech" just eye-balls it and said it "Should fly". That's what I've been saying for 18 months!!!

Anyways, long story short, with all the replacement metal parts I've added, the original nicad battery simply wasn't strong enough. The test flew it with a Lipo and then hooked me up with a Electrifly BP910 LiPo and a Multiplex MultiCharger (LN-5014).

It wasn't until 200 kms later that I realised I should have been a little more dumber than i appeared to be.

I take it that the input side of the "charger" comes from a vehicle battery (11-15 V DC) ????????

I've come away with an incomplete set of new Deans connectors but I was wondering about the charger side of the LiPo. It has 3 black leads (1 per cell?) and one red lead, all into the one small (PC type) connector. Can I take the three black leads and solder them all together into a Deans connector or are the cells magically charged in sequence from a different charger.

I'm getting confidence back - just need to get some power into the little sucker.

Thanks in advance guys - appreciate it.

Cheers,

Dave

Further to my last post (!!!)

I guess I charge the LiPo through the ESC leads - so I'm not short on the Deans side of life.

Still a little skeptical using my truck's battery but I guess if you're out in the wild's, where else would you get a power supply?

thanks,

Dave

DO NOT SOLDER THE BLACK LEADS TOGETHER!

This connector is for a balancing charger or a straight balancer. If you don't have one, get a balancer. The Equinox balancer should be good for that battery. These Li-po batteries don't maintain a balanced charge, so one cell can become fully charged while the other two continue to take a charge. The fully charged cell will get hot and could start a fire while the charger continues to charge as it is not sensing a full battery pack. Save your house (or truck) from a fire and get a balancer.
