I can't say if it will continue to rise but I don't think it's going down any time soon.

Wait a minute, I heard that the shortage was due to a chinese factory being shut down for the olympics. If that is true, then production should be back to normal soon and prices should fall back to normal. If it isn't true and 30% heli fuel is going to keep costing $50-75 a gallon, then I'm going to have to re-evaluate my ability to stay in the hobby. I ran out of 30% a few days ago and have been waiting for prices to fall before running out to the LHS. Just flying airplanes and electrics in the mean time.

The price hike is driven by two factors:

1. shortage of supply (the China situation)

2. the cost of oil (since Nitro is a petroleum product)

Although we may see some easing of the price as a result of number one, chances are we'll never go back to previous prices because of number two.

If shops know people are prepared to buy at high prices then I would suprised even when it drops at source the shop will not follow suit.

The if its too high and less is sold then it could rise further to compensate the lack of sales..

The last thing we need is people saying is glow engines are dying out otherwise the electric hairdryer brigade will overtake the nitro boys!!

Best I can tell Nitromethane is made from natural gas and not from oil

Natural gas supply's world wide are very abundant and only last week they even found a large amount in Texas USA and gas prices are not increasing as much as oil is with a risk for severe drops in prices due to over supply

Therefore we should expect no big increase in cost for Nitromethane except the extra costs of transport which uses oil

Unfortunately (for us) the price of natural gas and crude oil are inexorably linked.

Just ask someone who uses propane or CNG as a fuel and you'll find that their prices have risen as much (or more) than the price of gasoline.
