Would this by chance be an Early RC Models kit?

Yep, like I said; an Early RC Models kit. They are the manufacturer and they are, in fact, laser cut. I ask because they aren't really designed for electric power (I have built 11 of their kits). Not to say they won't make fine conversions but I would recommend lightening the build a little to save weight. The wood selections are generally very good but they are designed virtually the same as the original kits so they may be a little portly if built stock. You may consider eliminating forward fuse doublers and other such heavy parts that aren't really necessary with e-power. I think with some careful lightening the falcon 56 would make an excellent conversion. If you decide not to modify, it will still fly well but I believe it will fly a bit more trainer-like if the weight is kept down.

This could turn out to be a really nice project! Keep us posted as to how you're progressing and feel free to throw on a few pictures while you're doing the build.
