I doubt ya did anything wrong. E-Flites esc's are known to run hot, and yer just another one that I ran across on there esc's also catching fire. Over in the plane forum, same thing. A few gents planes burnt up due to there E-Flites esc's...Contact Horizon & they'll replace it along sometimes with other damage that it did. They replaced a guys whole plane from it. I just swapped out a E-Flite 25a in one of my planes last night, and put in a Castle Creations 45a esc. Runs much cooler, & better effeciency.

Many different opinions out there about them, but personally I don't think they figured it out yet on how to provide an adequate esc....There garbage, period....

Hey captin, Jeff,

I second that, the stock Eflite ESC's are very problematic. I repaced mine long ago with an Eflite 40 amp, and have had no issues since.

Like Jeff said, get in touch with Horizon, and they will take care of it, it's a known issue.

They replaced mine with no questions asked, I just sent it in with the proper documentation. They do ask for receipts, so I provided mine, and had no issues.

Good luck with it, hope this helps.

Glenn

No it doesn't matter if it is higher. When you get an ESC for any helicopter you always want it to be rated higher than what the motor is rated for. But when you get higher rated ESC it cost more, so most people just get the cheapest ESC they can get that is rated higher than their motor.
