Status: offline 		One thing wrong with Chic's description of the day...is that the Tuskegee BT-13 trainer is home-based here in Culpeper and is awaiting him to join and also help us maintaining it in flying condition.

I will also add that meeting Chic was a bleast!!! We fit together great and Shirley added to very enjoyable day.

Sounds like an EXCELLENT trip and visit with Grover... and to now have the opportunity to get your hands dirty working to restore a real Avenger (and not sticky with CA working on your model) is amazingly cool. Sounds like you have your summer all mapped out! Are you done teaching for the semester yet? Hopefully you'll be able to make some time to participate in the restoration.

By the way, it looks like you have a bigger smile on your face... as well you should, standing alongside two beauties!

Status: offline 		Many thanks to both of you (Noah, Grover) for recognizing my beautiful wife. Shirley just told me I can take a lesson from both of you. I have about 10 days of teaching, if you call it that (field trips, picnics, etc.). Finish painting the DAWG, then on to the Avengers fuse. The full scale Avenger is due to arrive in late fall. Can not wait to see it. Heck, I'll sweep the floor just to put in a nut and a bolt. Chic

Let me ask the question everyone is so graciously sidestepping.. Does your significant other realize the smile in your face is due to the metal beauty behind you and not the beauty next to you?
As for a chance to work on a real avenger, lucky guy, wish I lived closer would love to be part of that.
As for the latest update, believe it or not the final 3 colors are sprayed on the cowl as well as the bottom of both outer wing panels, next week we spray the tops and start working on setting up all the servo throws. I will take pix on Tuesday and post before weeks end.
Was at the jones beach airshow on Saturday, B17 Yankee lady, corsair, jug, p40 and a p51 fly by totally awesome, not to mention an F22, a super hornet and the oracle bipe which I think is a Pitts. The Canadian Snowbirds performed as well as the golden knights parachute team and the Blue Angels.. The best part was a heritage flight with the f22 and the p51.
On another note, progress is being made on my t-28, first half of the wing is together, attaching the webbing and then will sand the leading edge to start sheeting ala Boyd to hold the washout..
Winds weren't too terrible today, 12 - 15 crosswind, hoping for down the runway tomorrow
See Noah, had you chosen or been chosen for OLD D you too could have been part of the restoration... Who knew, but from all the posts I think you did quite well, it seems like you have landed with an awesome bunch of guys

I have to agree with the others about the two attractive girls in the photo, and I to have have to ask.

Although I also am not as big as I appear in a photo , I need one of those shirts in XXL. Where did you find it??

Now that we have finally decided NOT to spill the beans about Chic and the silly grin on his face here's an update. Attached are the latest photos of the cowl in all 4 colors and and a rear quarter shot.. canopies are not attached...
Wed. nite we will finish painting the outer wing panles and start setting up the servo throws, finally light at the end of the tunnel...

But, PLEASE tell me that you do not have to clear-coat over the paint!!! (and as a consequence re-mask the canopy, turret, and windows!!!!!) The Rustoleum should be fuel-proof enough, I should think (hope)!

Cant wait to see it on the flight-line!!

Only clear coat is over the blue/grey it was a bit too shiny so we hit it with satin clear the other 3 colors are gloss out of the cans,.I'm thinking that the rustoleum should hold up since we have guys who finish with latex paint.
I still can't get over the size of c-arf holy batshit robin, it's freaking huge but I guess when you guys have half a county to fly in it works.. I'm so freaking jealous...

Status: offline 		Good to hear, Larry... and I agree that the Rustoleum should hold it's own against a llittle bit of spent/unspent gasoline/oil that comes from the exhaust. Rustoleum has always held up for me when I was flying nitro-powered planes, so you should be more than good.

I spoke to a friend this evening that has relocated an Avenger to the local area. Currently he operates an A-26 Invader, but will also soon be flying the TBM locally and at air shows nation wide. Noah we need to get some photos of your bird with his once you are settled in.
If anyone needs detail photos of either plane let me know. I will be at his hanger weekend after next with my camera. Can’t wait to hanger fly the bird when I arrive.

That would be KPWA located in Bethany, OK. Same location as Miss A and the A-26. When you get setteled in we can grab breakfast at the runway cafe and I will introduce you to the proud owners of these fine warbirds, then we will climb all over them. Also just down the road another friend has a T-28.

What a great looking plane, nice paint job. I'm sure you'll have a Great time flying it.
Progress report, tonight we finished painting the wings, attached the control rods to the elevators and rudder. Also got the 2 dummy exhaust mounted in the cowl as well as the rubber gasket mounted temporarily to the gun tub.
No progress for the next 2 weeks as the grandkids will be visiting...but still hoping for engine start by the end of June, more to follow.
Noah, I am so jealous about how close you guys are to all those great aircraft, though in a short 19 months I will be within 2 hrs of the boneyard and PIMA museum in Tucson

The D VI looks awesome! Now go verify that it flies as good as it looks, put it in storage, and get back to the Avenger! You're clearly a master modeler with skill sets that very few of us could ever hope to match... which is why I'm so damn anxious to see your Avenger come together!!! (so take no offense, please, about my suggestion to ignore your beautiful DVI). I do wish you all the best on the maiden, and do give us a report!

Yes, Larry, I'll be very fortunate to be so close to so many incredible pieces of "art" and history! And it sounds like you will be, too, soon enough! I look forward to the reports of the engine start and taxi tests and final ckecks later this month.

Amazing craftmanship, if I didn't know better I would think it was on the GM assembly line. That being said I just want you all to know that after seeing Peters work I am giving up the hobby and taking up needlepoint. As nice as I thought ours was looking I now know that compared to Peters it's like a 57 rust bucket next to a Bently...
Peter I do have a question, it looks like you have thin plastic sheets affixed to the fuselage to mimic actual aluminum panels.

So if anyone knows where to get needlepoint supplies at a cheap price please let me know.

I would be interested in seeing how you reworked the cowl. Looks like you have scale, operational cowl flaps. True? Also, did you end up installing the motor 0,0 degrees, and in that case, did the motor fit entirely within the cowl, or did you make modifications that are not apparent to me (in order to get the Moki to fit)?

When I fit the cowl originally, I squished the top to bottom dimension slightly which in turn made it effectively wider , then cut a slot and splayed the side out where the cylinder head is, feathered in in using glass and  filler, then re-cut  the panel lines with a file.

The cowl flaps are not functional  but with the amount of surgery preformed it made sense to whip up a couple rather than try to salvage the off cuts. 

The engine is mounted 1.5 x 1.5
