I would really be interested in hearing your experiences with the DZ in regards to, engine mounts, exhaust systems, firewall construction, & generally anything about a DZ that may require something different construction wise as compared to a 140L or a two stroker.

Thanks,

Clay

This is what works for me:

1/8" Aircraft ply firewall
Hyde Mount AR or AR(A) type
Central Hobbies Header
Hatori 693 pipe

normal stuff for construction.

Hi,

This works in ZNLine Enigma:

Mount:ZNLine. It has a nice feature to limit Y.S. kick sideways to protect cowl.

Firewall: 3mm Hybrid Carbon/Aramid fabric 188g/m^2 in both sides, between 3mm aramidhoneycomb 29g/m^2. Very light firewall~20g ! Original was 40g.

Exhaust: 185mm Asano header+630mm straight Asano carbon pipe

Really that's it. My 40 sized Tracer uses 2: 1/8" ply sheets glued together.

Do you have any long-term problems with this?

Firewalls are amazingly over built on almost all models. I use a single 1/4" thickness firewall on my 28% Extra 300s with an OS BGX (2.13cu). I have .25 sized kits at home with 1/4" AC ply firewalls. 1/8" is more than adequate for the vast majority of models up to and including 1.4 4-strokes. The smaller the area of the firewall, the lighter it can be constructed. As long as it doesn't flex, there's no problem.

I don't know I put over 1000 flights on a Fashion in 00', and an Ariel in 97'...These both are still flying with other pilots for several years now.....

Is this long term enough for you?

I guess what works for some doesn't work for others....Its just like (3) 4-40 bolts holding my motor mount to the firewall....Never had an issue....

Many thanks to all for your replies.

As I told Troy on the NSRCA list I plan on building one of my brother's Defiants. He's always run a 140L in this design and he uses a 1/8 ply firewall. He's used both a Hyde mount and the Gator mount with good success. Both of us plan to use a DZ in the future and we weren't sure about any necessary changes. Doesn't sound like any are needed. Again thanks to all for your input.
